Considering LA’s cap situation and the rumoured salary expectation of PLD combined with Hellebuyck‘s current salary….it looks unlikely, but to play along…

Likely have to include Iafallo and Arvidsson for cap reasons, and that’s likely still not enough. Jets will want compensation for taking on so much cap, increasing the return to Brandt Clarke level, which would likely be a non-starter for LA, so…

I can see LA being interested in 1, but probably not both

Kopitar‘s $10M cap hit (final year of his contract) makes it challenging, but not impossible. Jets could retain 50% on the remaining year of Hellebuyck, then LA can do its extension for him. Dubois… let’s say he comes in at $8.4M. Combined with a 50% retained Hellebuyck, that adds about $11.5M. If we take back Iafallo and Arvidsson, it’s a net salary cap increase of $3.25M

I think LA can do this.

Now, what is LA reasonably adding to this?

If it is a sign and trade the Jets are not retaining for multiple years. That would cost a fortune.

For Hellebuyck, it wouldn’t be a sign and trade. We trade a 50% retained 1-year contract of Hellebuyck and LA can extend him on July 1 and pay the full load for his extension.

The cap is really only an issue for one season, with Kopitar’s $10 million off the books after this year. It’s not even draft day either, the Kings don’t have to pay Winnipeg to take back more cap. Arvidsson or Moore, if necessary, could be traded to other teams this offseason. Retention on Hellebuyck for just this season would likely be a big help, but a third team could take that cap hit if necessary.

If Dubois is sincere when he said he wanted to play for the Habs only, he can refuse to sign a long term contract with the Kings and become an UFA. If he did sign a long term contract with the Kings then he is a liar and I am quite happy he doesn't play for my team.

When did Dubois say he wanted to play for the Habs only?

NEWSFLASH… it was recently reported that Dubois is willing to do an 8-year sign and trade with up to 5-6 teams (including the Habs).

Sorry if that hurts your feelers.

He has never once said that. The closest is his agent admitted that Montreal is place he'd like to play. If there's an actual quote saying that he only wants to play with Habs, I'd love to hear it so please provide a link. You can't call someone a liar for going back on something they never said

Have you not been paying attention to the reports rhat there are 5 or 6 teams he's willing to

It would be Hellebuyck at 50%
Arvidsson & Iafallo & Vilardi & Durzi out
22 man roster & about 400k to spare.

Double retention on Hellebuyck might get you to a 23 man roster with no cap.

Could move Moore too, but now wing depth is non existent.

Hellebuyck & Dubois just isn't workable with icing a team.

Cap says no
If arvidsson and iafallo come back, the cap with PLD is a wash. We can retain 50% on helle which puts him at 3.08M. You're gonna have to sign a goalie anyway, good luck getting one cheaper than that.

The other option is we sign PLD at 8M for one year and retain on that one too and then he's extended 7x8M in January when he's able to. He still gets his 8x8, but the risk is a career ending injury over the first 3 months of the season. Then Kopitar is off the books and it's all good

If the cap is within a few of mil I don’t even take it into consideration…. The cap is a soft number as Vegas has show, and if the parties are motivated they will find a way to make it work without much issue.

I feel like you can't retain on a contract that hasn't kicked in yet. Retain on his final year? Fine.

I'm sure Winnipeg would retain on Hellebuyck this season for a very good return from LA, but it would require some trust on LA's part that Hellebuyck is sticking around. I don't see why he wouldn't but if it went catastrophic for the first couple of months, who knows.

How about something like this?

To Los Angeles: Pierre-Luc Dubois, Connor Hellebuyck

To Winnipeg: Quinton Byfield, Sean Durzi, Alex Iafallo, Arthur Kaliyev, LA’s 2nd 2023

Fiala - Kopitar - Kempe
Moore - Dubois - Vilardi
Turcotte - Danault - Arvidsson
Grundstrom - Lizotte - Kupari

Anderson - Doughty
Gavrikov - Clarke
Bjornfot - Roy

Hellebuyck
Copley

Not sure if it’s too much or too little.

Jets say yes to this, although I'd prefer Arvidsson over Iafallo.

It’s been rumoured he wants to go back to Quebec. If he goes to Montreal where dose that put Kirby dach,

Suzuki
PLD
Dach

I don’t think Dach wants to be a third line Center and I think He’s too good to be a bottom 6 player

Dach from Out west maybe he want’s to move closer to home . Some kind of sign and trade along the lines of Dach for PLD makes alot of sense

Winnipeg pretty much replacing their center their losing with a talented young Center

Novel idea.

I'd take it over Kidney, Dvorak and Florida's 1st.

If Barron was available I'd be interested in that.

Kidney, Dvorak, and Panthers 1st was something we had on the table like over 6 months ago. Things change bud. Panthers 1st is not mid pack anymore. My max offer today is Beck, Panthers 1st and a NHL contract (one of Dvorak, Hoffman, Armia, Eddy). Possible other adds but B prospect types.

Barron is not untouchable but we prefer to retain our RD's. Same with Mailloux.

I think the Kings offer will be similar to ours. It will be based around the Trouba and Horvat trades. Something like that.

Dach played center and wing all season. Dach on Dubois line or Suzuki's line as a puck carrying winger is a good situation, not a bad one.

The other option is to run 3 very good lines at 5/5 and stack two PP's. You can have a bunch of forwards in the 14-18 min range if you run 3 lines with the 4th line getting less.

Dach's development should not be reason not to try to bring Dubois home. Talent wants to play with talent and team Canada wins gold medals with centers on wing.

Horvat got a huge contract after he was traded. Will PLD get 8.5 x 8 too?

Dach’s way more effective playing center. That’s where he’s most effective, especially in and around the net. Faceoffs may be an issue right now but it even took guys like Crosby 5 years to get that right. If anybody got moved to the wing, it would be Dubois. And that begs the question of where Dubois actually fits long term. He isn’t a dire need at all. Especially for the crazy money being thrown around here.

I believe Dubois is in the $8M - $9M range for 8 years. Horvat didn't get any signing bonus structure. Neither did Larkin.

If it's the Habs or Kings, either team could offer 50% or more of the contract paid as signing bonus and offer NTC/NMC and maybe it ends up in the 8x $8M - $8.5M range.

Above $9M? Possible but hope it's not the Habs.

It's overrated. Dach can be a center on wing. It's just line-up arrangement on the faceoff dot. Dach made his first gain with us last year when put on Suzuki/Caufield's wing. Then again later on when we had to move him to center with Monahan getting injured. He's performed very well in either situation with us last year.

Funny right? Dach may be the better puck carrier vs Suzuki and Dubois and I have him on wing on either line. It's a nice problem to have bud.

Looks like he will be getting more.

Be careful with the rumors. I don't think there is any credible source saying it will be more. It's just media spins.

However, It is very possible that Dubois/Brisson want a bidding war and one of those 5 or 6 teams to get aggressive and offer up $9M - $9.5M range.

My gut is telling me he would take $8M - $9M from the Habs if we can agree on a trade but other teams have to pay $9M+. Yup, I believe this is true and no source. I still think we have the inside track and Dubois/Brisson are just opening it up to a few more teams to see if someone else offers them a bloated contract.
