LeBrun: Dubois wants out of Winnipeg, will not sign a contract for next season

ok? what does that have to do with the conversation at all? you made a claim as if it was jets fans were making these proposals to montreal and habs fans saying they can't afford to go big game hunting at this point in their rebuild when in reality it's been a year of montreal fans making 90+% of the proposals for pld
Montreal is in no position to go big game hunting

If there are no other available destinations for pld, he may still end up there but the return will be underwhelming. Certainly wont be getting dach back

Most Montreal fans are indifferent to the idea of pld, and were hoping to sign him as a Ufa. Not really interested in trading for him and I at least hope you guys find a suitable trading partner.

One interesting thing for me has been comparing Habs and LA prospect pool both rebuilding teams for a similar amount of time, it is amazing to see how mid Habs prospect pool is compared to LA. And LA already has better players on their NHL lineup!l

Look at both team of player under 22 and MTL look as good if not better, they had 5 rookies on D last year. You might not know MTL prospect I'm guessing.

Ghule
Barron
Hutson
Xhekaj
Mailloux
Engstrom
Harris
Struble

MTL prospect pool remain a top 5 in the NHL.

Forward wise it could be better but under 22 it's still fine.

5 OV
1st FLO
Caufield
Slafkovski
Dach
Joshua Roy
Owen Beck
Emil Heineman
Olivier Kapanen
Jan Mysak
Riley Kidney

MTL are in great shape after our 2nd year of rebuild and our captain is only 23.

Still far from ready to complete for a playoff spot but PLD would be a great add to this core.

There are lots insisting that we give up dach for him.

I guarantee that if he ends up in Montreal, dach will not be going back the other way.
Your guarentee means jack shit

It comes down to montreal management

As I said before...

Rumour has it that Dach always the ask, and Habs refused (which makes sense if Habs management thought PLD was angling towards UFA and would land on their lap in a year without having to expend assets)

Now there appears to he at least one other team with interest. If the offer from LA is decent, MTL might have to put Dach on the table to get it done. If they don't want to, fine. Go with the better offer.

But the dreams of either getting him for nothing or for 31st, Dvorak and a b prospect are long gone

I can't see why Habs managment would choose that hill to die on. If the they trade for PLD, Dach either moves to the wing or down to the third line. If you think he has upside as a C then you'd just he wasting assets keeping him around to play a lesser role.

BTW I say that as someone not all that interested in Dach, I think that if PLD does go to the Habs Dach will be the C coming back and I'm not exactly thrilled with the idea.

A few Jets fans laughed at my suggestion of Kotkaniemi. I think it's actually a pretty good scenario for both sides, no?

Just depends if PLD will sign there.

I remember the Laine for Kotkaniemi proposals awhile ago and Hab fans scoffed saying how KK was too valuable and was going to be a superstar. Ha ha… good times.

Seems like a common theme though. :snide:

Edit: I just dumpster dived into an older KK thread. A frequent Habs poster (who shall remain nameless) had said “KK has #1C written all over him”. YIKES! No wonder you don’t want to trade Dach… he’s gonna be AMAZING guaranteed!!

So what does a Hellebuyck and Dubois trade to Los Angeles look like?
Considering LA’s cap situation and the rumoured salary expectation of PLD combined with Hellebuyck‘s current salary….it looks unlikely, but to play along…

Likely have to include Iafallo and Arvidsson for cap reasons, and that’s likely still not enough. Jets will want compensation for taking on so much cap, increasing the return to Brandt Clarke level, which would likely be a non-starter for LA, so…

I can see LA being interested in 1, but probably not both

I see Arvidsson and Iafallo as OK stopgaps until Luscious and Lambert (or mcgroarty) are ready to make the jump

Then let LA get Dubois. Habs is in rebuild mode and don't need Dubois. We are not giving up Dach for him.

Well you won't be disappointed as Dach won't be joining the Jets.

I'd take it over Kidney, Dvorak and Florida's 1st.

If Barron was available I'd be interested in that.
All depends on what else your asking for and what Dubois is wikking to sign for.

I suggested Kotkaniemi earlier AS A PIECE. Kotkaniemi + Morrow + Drury.

How about something like this?

To Los Angeles: Pierre-Luc Dubois, Connor Hellebuyck

To Winnipeg: Quinton Byfield, Sean Durzi, Alex Iafallo, Arthur Kaliyev, LA’s 2nd 2023

Fiala - Kopitar - Kempe
Moore - Dubois - Vilardi
Turcotte - Danault - Arvidsson
Grundstrom - Lizotte - Kupari

Anderson - Doughty
Gavrikov - Clarke
Bjornfot - Roy

Hellebuyck
Copley

Not sure if it’s too much or too little.

That doesn't work cap wise.

PLD + Hellebuyck is like 12M+

Vilardi is going to take another 4M+ in cap probably.

I don't think Winnipeg would be too keen on retention either.

I don't mind the mix of players coming back to Winnipeg here. We could probably retain 50% on helle for next season to help the cap. Maybe an extra pick would be nice here too but it's tough to break down the value for both guys in 1 trade like this

That LA lineup looks crazy assuming Kopi doesn't fall off too much

If Dubois is sincere when he said he wanted to play for the Habs only, he can refuse to sign a long term contract with the Kings and become an UFA. If he did sign a long term contract with the Kings then he is a liar and I am quite happy he doesn't play for my team.
It's been reported that this will be a sign and trade, Dubois will be under an 8 year contract before he's officially a king/hab. I'm sure you will be overjoyed you didn't ink a 24 year old 6'3 1C to an 8 year deal if LA gets him.

Winnipeg has a few cheap depth options we could send over with Dubois to help replace some of these guys, probably doesn't help the cap situation too much sending out multiple roster players and only bringing back 1 in Dubois

This is a troll right?

The Habs have been rebuilding for 2 years, and have had one draft since that rebuild has started.
