It's overrated. Dach can be a center on wing. It's just line-up arrangement on the faceoff dot. Dach made his first gain with us last year when put on Suzuki/Caufield's wing. Then again later on when we had to move him to center with Monahan getting injured. He's performed very well in either situation with us last year.

Funny right? Dach may be the better puck carrier vs Suzuki and Dubois and I have him on wing on either line. It's a nice problem to have bud.

Be careful with the rumors. I don't think there is any credible source saying it will be more. It's just media spins.

However, It is very possible that Dubois/Brisson want a bidding war and one of those 5 or 6 teams to get aggressive and offer up $9M - $9.5M range.

My gut is telling me he would take $8M - $9M from the Habs if we can agree on a trade but other teams have to pay $9M+. Yup, I believe this is true and no source.
Friedman in the latest 32 thoughts podcast literally said the contract would be somewhere between Barzal and Larkin (8.7 to 9.15)

You should stop listening to your gut and listens to the ones who are knowledgeable of the situation

How would Friedman know? He's guessing like we are. There is no way Friedman knows at this stage.

Nope. I have my own opinion and that's what this site is about. I think Dubois contract falls around Hintz, Larkin, Horvat. Of course they will start high as strategy. Duh. You don't need insider knowledge to understand it.

I still think we have the inside track and Dubois/Brisson are just opening it up to a few more teams to see if someone else offers them a bloated contract.

So he wants to remain in Winnipeg then?

Maybe PLD just wants to get the biggest contract possible, regardless of where he plays? Seems like the rumours of his wanting to play for the Habs have increased what his contract could be if he goes to a different club. And if the Habs want him they will need to pay similar. He is going to leverage a big number it seems.

If Dubois wants to be in Montreal, he needs to accept getting paid less or equal to Suzuki and Caufield, who are the core leaders that set the bar for a long term deal in Montreal (7.85 M * 8 or less).

If he wants more, he needs to go to the open market.

Kent Hughes should not get Tavares'ed.

He could easily over play his hand here in the process of trying to wield leverage.

if PLD wanted the most money possible, he wouldn't limit himself to '5-6' teams. i don't see how him wanting to play for a rebuilding team would help

It's quite clearly not Canadiens fans proposing Dach in deals. Who do you think is making the proposals where Dubois is traded for Dach?
If a team like LA offers more in trade for PLD than the Habs then the Jets will take that deal. The key seems to be if the team getting PLD believes they can extend him and at what cost. Is he a 9 mil per player? And if that’s what he’s getting paid where does he fit in a club’s lineup? Have to be top 2 centres.

Lol, comparing your perspectives to Friedmans is pretty bold.

He might be one of, if not, the most connected insider. He doesn’t pull stuff out of thin air and put out there like Pagnotta from T4P.

He would have been told by sources close to the situation.

I'm comparing my perspective to Horvat, Larkin, Hintz contracts. Deal with it.

Do you really think any member of the media knows what Brisson is asking for in sign/trade talks at the moment? You are too gullible bud. Even the good ones in the media have a accuracy % less than the weather man..

Dubois next contract is guess work. Could be $8M - $9M or $9M - $9.5M if someone wants to get aggressive. Of course the team starts around $8M and Brisson starts around $9.5M. Duh

imo the leverage in his next contract dollar isn’t gained by the number of trams he’s willing to extend with but by the rumour he wants to play for the Habs. The team that trades for him will need to pay to keep him. Previous posters here suggesting a cap hit of 8.5 and up. Even over 9. If he does get that kind of dollar that seems like a big number for PLD to me.

The Suzuki and Caufield deals had RFA years in them. PLD will be mostly UFA years. They're almost always worth more.

Unfortunately your GM already told you you're wrong. Those were coming out of ELC's. Why would a GM hamstring himself by setting the cap limit at 7.85

Kidney, Dvorak, and Panthers 1st was something we had on the table like over 6 months ago. Things change bud. Panthers 1st is not mid pack anymore. My max offer today is Beck, Panthers 1st and a NHL contract (one of Dvorak, Hoffman, Armia, Eddy). Possible other adds but B prospect types.

Barron is not untouchable but we prefer to retain our RD's. Same with Mailloux.

I think the Kings offer will be similar to ours. It will be based around the Trouba and Horvat trades. Something like that.

Vilardi is the difference in the offer. I still take a 2024 1st, Roy and Vilardi over Beck, Florida's 1st and any of those NHL contracts you listed. We've disagreed in the past about Beck's value, so I'm not going to get into it further, but Vilardi is the type of component the Jets usually prefer which is a younger NHL ready player.

Because first: Dubois ain't worth it, period.

Second: There is a salary structure in Montreal that Hughes worked to set-up. I don't see that in LA with Doughty/Kopitar/etc.

If they think he can be as good as Kopitar and give him 9 millions, great for them. He should go there.

Dubois is a 2nd C for me. Not worth that. Only way he can fit long term in Montreal is under Suzuki cap hit. He needs to understand that if he really wants to have the privilege to play for his childhood team.

No Tavares situation here.

The Suzuki and Caufield deals had RFA years in them. PLD will be mostly UFA years. They're almost always worth more.

Dubois is strapping himself out of a UFA status he really wants to go in Montreal. If he's really willing to sign long term elsewhere and this is not posturing to try to get Montreal to move, I think he'll sign elsewhere because it just doesn't make sense to spend that kind of money on #2 C for a team like Montreal.

"I don't care what my GM says, I refuse to pay PLD a cent more than Suzuki"

If PLD is a 2C so is Suzuki.

How would yall value Swayman vs Vilardi? I’m loathe to make an offer after how swimmingly my Mark S to Boston thread went earlier in the week.

Suzuki is the team captain and leader.

Dubois has to know his place if he comes in.

And will PLD making 8.5 long term remove the captaincy from Suzuki?

I don't think the Habs should be paying 9+ for PLD either, but you're getting UFA years, it always costs more. Even with a discount if he goes to Montreal he'll be higher than Suzuki. Has no effect on his captaincy or leadership.

Vegas just won the Cup after trading for Eichel who is on a higher cap (10 mil) than any other player on their club. If PLD comes to the Habs at 9 imo that makes them a better club, even if they have to give up a young asset (like Dach) to get him. Didn’t Vegas give up Tuch to get Eichel?
I just see having a 1-2 centre punch of Suzuki and PLD as something special.
Likely won’t happen of course. Habs won’t give up Dach. And another club will offer more. And in two years that could be the better move anyway.

Depends what else came with Swayman but Swayman is also in the mold of what the Jets would want. With Hellebuyck almost certainly leaving I'd put Swayman at the top of that list.

Though I doubt it's true, if Byfield is actually in play he's the frontrunner.

Dubois is not Eichel. What are we doing here?
