That's a great way to limit yourself from high profile free agents/extension candidates moving forward. Can't get paid more than our 26 goal, 66 point captain.
Or maybe we just don't want 3 sub ppg players making 8 million?

Its not crazy to think its a bad idea, hell if dubois was a 10 million dollar ppg center nobody would be crying about paying him

Because first: Dubois ain't worth it, period.

Second: There is a salary structure in Montreal that Hughes worked to set-up. I don't see that in LA with Doughty/Kopitar/etc.

If they think he can be as good as Kopitar and give him 9 millions, great for them. He should go there.

Dubois is a 2nd C for me. Not worth that. Only way he can fit long term in Montreal is under Suzuki cap hit. He needs to understand that if he really wants to have the privilege to play for his childhood team.

No Tavares situation here.

Dubois is strapping himself out of a UFA status he really wants to go in Montreal. If he's really willing to sign long term elsewhere and this is not posturing to try to get Montreal to move, I think he'll sign elsewhere because it just doesn't make sense to spend that kind of money on #2 C for a team like Montreal.
He doesn't exclusively want to go to MTL according to the latest reports

As with all decisions, there are probably multiple factors. I'm sure the money is one of them. Chevy has given Brisson permission to speak to the 5-6 teams PLD will extend with. If MTL comes in with 7.5M x 8 and other teams are 8.5 x 8, maybe PLD suddenly realizes that his dream to play for the Habs isn't worth losing out on 8M

It’s been rumoured he wants to go back to Quebec. If he goes to Montreal where dose that put Kirby dach,

Suzuki
PLD
Dach

I don’t think Dach wants to be a third line Center and I think He’s too good to be a bottom 6 player

Dach from Out west maybe he want’s to move closer to home . Some kind of sign and trade along the lines of Dach for PLD makes alot of sense

Winnipeg pretty much replacing their center their losing with a talented young Center
i dont want Dubois at center i want him next to Suzuki and Caufield i think he would be perfect next to those 2

Dubois - Suzuki - Caufield
Slafkovsky - Dach - 2023 #5

I dont know how many times it needs to be said but Habs aint trading Dach

Yeah, that will be his decision to make, but I don't see Montreal giving him more than the Suzuki deal. If Hughes has to pay assets because he wants to come over right now instead of waiting for next year, my guess is Dubois will have to accept a deal under what his agent looks to consider fair value.

I personally think 7.5-8 m * 8y is more than fair value, but I think a deal in Montreal inked this summer instead of next summer should be around that.

If he accepts staying in Winnipeg for a year/signing for a year somewhere else and he shows next season he's a #1C in this league, then Montreal will pay him full value as a UFA next summer.

Dubois is not Eichel. What are we doing here?
Eichel needed major neck surgery so it was a risk Vegas took. Eichel’s value was not that of the pre injury player. Plus he had the 10 mil per contract. Yet Vegas took the risk and give up a really good young player to get him. Imo the posters suggesting PLD will get a contract north of what Horvat got might be correct.

The chances you are correct about Dach is very high. Have we (HF) ever actually predicted what a trade looks like? And clearly the Habs value Dach a lot as they just traded (in a round about way) a young top four D man to get him.
Imo PLD is getting traded to a club other than Montreal and will sign a long term contract with that new club that is around the Horvat money. 8.5 - 9 x 8

Those are two way different players. Habs fans would give up Dach if somebody like Eichel was available. Regardless if he needed a surgery. Those players are rarely ever available. Buffalo had Eichel signed for 5 more years and there was no trade clause in effect so they had every advantage in a trade negotiation. Nothing like Winnipeg and Dubois right now.

Yea at the end it will depend on where Dubois wants to play i know personally i would love to live in LA has a young millionaire and they have the assets

Should be LA or MTL imo

Eichel was a risk and Vegas took it and it worked out. PLD isn’t a risk about if he will be able to play healthy. He does need a new contract in 2024 though, so that part is a risk. And that risk is likely why PLD will get a big contract like what Horvat got.

I can understand why fans want to keep their young players. Those are the guys that hope for a winning future is based on.

Habs fans obsession with Bergevin is disturbing
No…it’s fully justified.
Bergevin inherited a team with a lot of promise and talent, and in the course of his decade in power, proceeded to dismantle and destroy that teams chances of ever winning the Stanley Cup.
In my opinion, Habs fans are actually taking it easy on him.

Bergevin is a dog water GM. I will curse his name for years

How can LA fit him in this situation? If Vilardi is getting a 3M bridge contract and they fill up the remaining 5 roster spot to make it 23 players with minimum salary of 800k, they would only have 300k left for PLD.

Lets say PLD will sign at minimum 8M, who do they trade to make it work?

Iafallo + Arvidsson/Moore?

Do anyone in the league want Moore at 4.2M for the next 5 years?

Are they ready to trade Kempe to make cap space for Dubois?

Arvidsson is UFA next season, I don't think he would extend in Winnipeg after living the last few years in LA.....

Iaffalo, what's his value as a 3rd line LW?

I have a hard time seeing how can LA do that trade without trading Adrian Kempe.

Seems like MTL have the cap space but arent willing to give up the assets LA have the assets but will have a tough time with his cap space, Wonder how it all goes down , will be interesting

Caufield’s 46 game pace in goals made him a 40 goal player according to many Hab fans on the main boards. PLD’s PPG pace was for 87 points. Add in super coach MSL and you are looking at a 100 point center in Dubois.

Including Iafallo in the return is fine for WPG, as he’d fit in our middle 6 LW.
I’d even be willing to take Arvidsson as well if it helped a trade that included a player that we really want or need…ie Clarke or Byfield.
In most Jets fans opinions, we should be blowing it up and going full rebuild, (not retool like the management/owners are planning), so taking some salary back isn’t a huge issue as we don’t really expect much as far as playoff success next season or the season after

If the Jets like the return package enough they have lots of room to take a cap dump....Im less concerned about bending the cap to make the deal work if all the parties are motivated, lots of creative ways to play with the numbers.

It's quite clearly not Canadiens fans proposing Dach in deals. Who do you think is making the proposals where Dubois is traded for Dach?
yeah, majority of the time people asked for dach was from after a montreal fan made a proposal for pld

I don't think Clarke is available to be honest, he's procable the number 1 prospect defenceman in the entire NHL. Byfield, I can see available I guess if they feel confident he's not going to be a 1st line center.

Byfield + Iaffalo + Arvidsson for Dubois + Gustafsson?

Maybe that would work with LA salary cap.

That means they would go with Copley and Portillo in net next year.

Won’t Kopitar be finished his contract when PLD’s next one starts?
