Post-Game Talk: Leafs lose 5-2 in Vegas

  • Xenforo Cloud has upgraded us to version 2.3.6. Please report any issues you experience.
Another -2 and he didn’t look good on that critical 4th goal where he was easily outmuscled in the corner. No comeback coming after that effort.

They played too loose but make no mistake, Woll was THE reason for this loss. We played a fairly decent first period but were down 3-0 thanks to the sieve in net.

Sure, we can pin this on the 3M goalie but we have no depth scoring to speak of. What we saw post 4 nations was just a blip. This team is supposed to score goals, that's how they are supposed to win. Every game is just a one goal game and the goaltending has to be razor sharp. When it's not, we look like this.

It’s a sellers market . Sell the complimentary pieces . Give minten and other young guys a run and see what you got . If they stick they also get playoff experience

No disrespect to you but we have way to many flush and forget it. That sentiment will get us yet another first round flushing down the toilet.
This team has serious issues that either need to be dealt with or we have to wait until this core ages out and we do the next rebuild .
No disrespect to you but having the team hold onto a loss on the 6th of March because Woll had a tough night is pointless

The team wasn't blown out ffs

Looks like the depth scoring we saw post 4 nations was just a blip on the radar. Back to being offensive blackholes again.
That 3C hole needs sorting now

I wouldn’t call two pages of honest opinions on how bad they were a “melt down” but I suppose everyone’s entitled to their opinion……….
Yes, the 1st place team in the Atlantic should be selling assets because they lost to the 1st place team in the Pacific and potential favourites to come out of the Western Conference.

Totally normal behaviour.

This team is not getting through any rounds until they start putting defense first in their game. Attention to detail is what sinks them. And Reilly is still useless back there...been saying from the start, he should have been a winger.

He's only a $900K goalie this year. The rest of the team was not very good either.

Woll is in his typical late-season slump (typical meaning twice now in 2 years).

Either he finds a way to get through it or pray Stolarz stays 100% healthy for however long we last in the playoffs.

Right! Like god forbid one of our goalies has an off night once in a while. Where the hell was our team?? We have 20 games left, it’s go time now.

Stolarz is going to be the game 1 starter anyway. He’s performed better throughout the year. So injury or not, hoping ir not, nothing Will does here is going to change anything

Hard to upgrade the D when half the cap goes to 4 forwards, but that debate was soap like five years ago………

Does that mean a groin injury is impending?

Looked at the score, came to HF expecting a full blown melt down...... Was not disappointed.

Like clock work.
Looks like pretty standard replies after a bad loss in a very late game that not many stayed up for. Not even sure what you're talking about.

When are we going to acknowledge that Reilly is problem in the backend.
While I know AM and MM scored today but they along with JT and Willie need to do more to carry the team.

now I do think fatigue could be a factor but this game shows the diff between a true contending team and a true playoffs team
Rielly is too well liked, and is too well established in Toronto to ever take the appropriate blame. It is so blatantly obvious he's the weak link in the D core.

In his case, his plus/minus numbers do not lie.

I don't think it registers to people just how replaceable Rielly is on the team. He's not giving you good defense, he's not giving you reliability, and at this point even his puck moving ability is in the shitter. And this is all with his previous weaknesses still in tact - bad on the PP, no point shot, prone to terrible brain farts, etc..

That contract was a bad mistake.

Bolts mortgaging the future for another run. Cats to be the latest loophole team to add another star over the cap for playoffs. Doesnt look good right now, especially with .500 hockey coming up.
People thought the mortgaged the future with Hagel and Jeanott. Now they have Guenztel, Gourde, McDononagh and Bjorkstand and some youth in the lineup.

One thing I would have done after that awful PP in the second where they gave up the breakaway and other chances that PP shouldn’t have come out for the rest of the game. Or they should have mixed up the 2 units.

I agree to a certain extent, but this team despite winning alot of games in the past dozen games, haven't looked like a team prepared for the playoffs. It has been the case all year that if the goaltending isn't rock solid, we'll lose. Our offence, despite the amount we pay our top 5, is very inconsistent. Our goal differntial is only 18. That is poor for a first place team and by far the lowest of any top three teams in each division of the conference.

Just a couple of months ago, I thought we had an ideal 1A and 1B goalie situation. Now we have to ride Stolarz without burning him out. To those above saying it was the team as much as Woll last night: sorry, teams play way different when they don't feel comfortable with the goalie behind them.

Hey, its teams 2nd regulation loss since January. You would have to be a moron to not want to gut the team at this point right?

All three of Matthews, Marner, and Tavares used the term "it's a wake-up call" in their post game interviews. I think that call should have been made a few months ago.

He only goes into the losing GDT's exclusively to patronize, just ignore it.

He's been a serious problem all year. He's fallen off a lot.

No one seems to get this.

Now take into account this team has ridden starters Campbell and Sansonov (who was pulled his last 2 series) into the playoffs.

Even with Woll currently struggling, he stepped up last playoffs and this tandem looks better than anything we have in net in the Matthews era.

Gotta shore up and bottom 6 at the TDL and we give it a shot. We've owned Tampa for quite a while and wrecked them this year while the Cats have our number the last while. Lots of big games down the stretch to test ourselves against them before the show.

Not when the brick Woll turns into Swiss cheese. The game was over when Vegas scored 3 goals in 7 shots. I'll reserve my judgment for the next game when Stolarz is in net. Our defence was also glaringly bad tonight. This team has so many warts.

You’re right, Joe Woll blew it for them early when they were pacing for like 60 shots after 12 minutes.
