Talking hockey rather than just taking shots (though warranted) at the the Oilers, they should trade out a couple of Hall, Eberle, RNH, Yakupov etc. for help on the blue-line.

I trust that the league did this fairly. Nothing wrong happened today. In fact, this isn't something that great for the league.

Agreed, proof that it's NOT rigged. Arizona gets shafted, Edmonton gets exalted. I can't believe it.

McDavid's going to have a great career. Even Edmonton can't screw that one up, and that management team will NEVER get fired now...they'd better be looking to move Eberle or Yak for defensive help, but that can't trade out of McDavid. They won't, right? Hahahahahahahaha.

Ugh, **** this division man.

Yup, have to assume they keep Hall and McDavid as 2/3 of a top line, that's nasty. Eberle would return a lot but I think he's important for them, keeping RNH as a #2 would be great as well. I mean, imo, Yakupov is the odd man out, the one with the most value that isn't a fit and isn't progressing much. I could see that being Eberle instead. Or maybe Draisaitl as a #2 and give us RNH, whatever!

Either way, this instantly makes it so they have the assets needed to make a huge trade while still having a great top 6.

Yeah, he gets lost in Edmonton. If the NHL was going to rig it, they would put him in an eastern city, where games start at 7pm, and the time zone where most hockey fans live.

Is it a joke, shame on the NHL, total disgrace. And the less that thrilled look on McDavid's face as he was shown wakling thru the corridor reflected that.he looked like someone just shot his dog.

I can't believe the league screwed up this badly. I'm really shocked.

how exactly did the league screw up? by NOT rigging it against the Oilers? lmao

While it's a joke that the Oil won again, I can't place blame on the league, Bettman or anything other than blind luck. Surely you're not suggesting the league WANTED the Oilers to get the pick?

First round team.

Until they address their defense and goaltending, I expect them to continue to suck. It took 5 years for DL to build ours.

What exactly did the league do wrong in this instance?

If I were the Oilers this is a great opportunity to fire McTavish and Lowe. They get the chosen one so now it's time to start fresh.

Of course it's not happening.

One great player will not turn that terrible franchise around. They will continue to be lead by the most inept group in the league.

My biggest nightmare would have been SJS getting the pick, so I can live with EDM getting it, even if McDavid can't.

He did indeed look like his dog just died. I seriously doubt he wanted to go to EDM. He wanted TOR more than anything, from what I read.

For the Oilers to be in as bad of shape as they are after 4 number 1 picks, that is a disgrace to the league. They are definitely going to need to trade some of their offensive talent and get some NHL-caliber defenders in there.

Look at it this way. Although it's not ideal to trade within the conference, much less the division, we have a lot of depth in our defensive pipeline. We may be able to move some D (if Voynov and Sekera come back) to obtain a player like Eberle to energize our offense.
