I'm sure someone else has said this already but I'd love to see Foegele Ryan Kostin as our fourth line. Not big on Shore.
Yeah I don't mind a 4th line like that either. Benson might work nice down there too when he comes back from his injury. If we traded Sami for some Shore clone, I hate this trade automatically. However I do quite like the idea of adding a tough mother f***er to our forward group that can slam people, punch one of Calgary's meatheads, and can skate properly. We just filled a need and at the end of the day, I'm fine with that.

Some of you are really overrating Samorukov. He's been passed by multiple defencemen since being drafted, and is not even close to cracking the top 7 defencemen (unless you consider 9-10 on the depth chart close). I liked the idea of him, but he's not beating Broberg or Nemo to the NHL, and at that point you kind of have to cut your losses.
True but many declared Samaroukov a sure fire NHLer and even ahead of Nurse an offseason or two ago... Should go dig up those old posts...
Reason why we should pump the brakes on shiny toys ... Broberg might be in the same boat next season and there are guarantees with Savoie/Lavoie/Petrov and even Bourgault...

Now do Samurokov
most talk about his career year last year and suggesting if he can take the next step he could be good. But this is via local vlogs and blogs--with KK---the blues vlogs and blogs are rather harsh on him--one of the posters on the blues board called him Yakupov Light or something like that

Two threads going on this guy. This deal follows the logic of the Virtanen PTO - continue to look to add size throughout this lineup, explore adapting high pedigree big body players into bottom six opportunity to support making this team harder to play against. The poor internal pilot light is the same for both and a key ingredient that's held them back along with questionable hockey sense.

Kostin is a worthwhile reclamation project. However he's not a Kassian replacement who was a predator type that loved to fight and an innate attribute (including unpredictability) that led to him being a high first round pick. If Kostin can find his consistency, play a hard game and show some skills, then mission accomplished. If that player/game/consistency clicks in, he may be held to account to stand up in the odd fight as an outcome of bringing it not necessarily because he's looking for it.

I think overall--we know very little about KK--but we had 4 years invested in Sammy and from what we saw and knew--we thought he was going go be a good NHLERS shortly--with KK? We not quite sure what we have
Yup, I also remember his first NHL game where he was directly responsible for goals on his first 3 consecutive shifts before promptly being benched. Clearly showed he wasn't nearly as close as we thought. With Klim I guess we will see, however I don't think it can be deemed as any great loss to see Sammy get flipped for another prospect.

I hope this works out. If a guy that has all the tools but no toolbox can’t find the toolbox playing for Berube, he ain’t never gonna find it. I’m sure Berube probably showed him how to build a frickin toolbox. Craig was a similar type guy.

Really weird to compare the player to Yakupov considering they have almost nothing in common except country of birth.

Guy was a beast in his last year of junior.
That year got me on his hype train. Unfortunately his development has stalled since then.

Biggest issue whenever I watch him now is he takes forever to pivot. That’s a death knell for a defenseman at the NHL level.

There is even a lot of pros that have a hard time with that transition. But yes definitely a prelude to getting walked around repeatedly.

It's too bad these two hadn't been waived/cleared and swapped earlier in camp. Would have been nice to see Kostin in some pre-season games.

Seems fine. Samorukov was going to be hard pressed to get an opportunity with Broberg and Niemalainen ahead of him. Cap hit of Kostin gives us more options for staying under the cap, I think.

League is getting faster every year.

Samo would’ve been a nice defenseman in the DPE.

Just a year ago he was the run away winner on their forum as the top prospect in the system:

St. Louis Blues Top-20 Prospects: #1

Granted the Blues prospect pool is shockingly shallow. But it's not like people didn't still have expectations for him not all that long ago.

That is what I was thinking

we have few d runnining around in different leagues and we can all agree the oilers need more depth in the bottom 6--and KK played in the NHL last year--he might just needed a change

You know the best pro scouts out there are random posters on message boards , now I am really concerned about this player :sarcasm:

Likely a bust for bust trade. Although if I had to pick one of these players panning out it would be Samorukov.
