Casey was always in a rough boat with just our current RD situation as there simply isn't a whole lot of room until Marino or Dougie are out of contract.

I do not like the idea of selling low on Marino and adding yet another aging player to the roster on a bloated contract. If he can be had for short term and we keep Marino around, cool. If it's anything over 2 years and at the sacrifice of Marino, it's Rango for Toffoli all over again.

I recall every instance where one of our D played their off side were their worst games of the season.

Yeah, but after a lower body injury, he's going to be looking for at least 4-5 years.

It should be noted that Pesce's also played on his off-hand before.

Fitz did say he wants to make major changes to the team. Makes me buy the rumor even more. Seems like canes fans are disgusted with him possibly going to Jersey.

I was a fan of just running back the same 6 D but now that they're already not doing that then I don't care. Do whatever Keefe wants. I'm a believer in Keefe's ability to coach a defense.

That said, I feel like the most likely scenario would be that they are simply confident one of those four RD can play left effectively and Pesce is the best value they can get in a D right now in terms of the performance-contract-cost of assets equation.

He wanted a top 4 D and maybe Pesce was determined as the best option and he’s comfortable with someone on their offside if need be.

Will have to wait and see the number but 6M+ won’t leave us with much room for our forwards.

They spent the entire year as the teams two most successful defenseman lmao

I wouldn’t say that at all. It was reported that Fitz wanted a top 4 dman. Maybe he believes Pesce is the best option available and doesn’t care that much about hand.

Casey for McGroarty is a deal that makes sense to me. It’s a deal I want to do but only if we can snag one of the top D at 10

I think we should sell high on Casey. Not convinced his productivity will translate as well in the NHL and he plays a premium position.

Yep. Casey is never getting PP time with the Devils, which severely limits his overall value.

An obvious trade chip. They should move him while his perceived value is high.

I doubt it shakes out this way and I'm not a fan of d-men playing their off-hand but wouldn't surprise me if Nemec could make it work next to Marino or Pesce.

There are red flags there. And unless Dougie's career is cooked, they don't need RD.

This is only a thing in the universe you’re in where Luke and Nemec weren’t good last year. In the real world, they will both play pivotal roles for the team next season.

I don't think so either, so paying big money and term to an RD (like Pesce) doesn't make sense.

That said, Dumba also had a severe pec injury and was never the same player after that. Career wasn't cooked, but he was nowhere near the same.
