You assume the good players want to play for Detroit. This coming from an Ottawa fan...good players want to play for winners.

If I'm a GM of a bottom dwelling team, you need guys like Bobby to fill out your roster before you really start to contend and promote/increase the role of your younger players.

Should add: on a 1 year deal? Fine. Whatever. Who cares. If there's "tons of interest" and he gets a Nielsen deal? Absolutely awful.

My guess is he wanted to go to a team where he knows he'll get to play a lot, top6 and pp time, to prove himself and then sign a longer contract elsewhere.
It doesnt fully make sense though considering his age and the fact that he might start declining even further at any time, but that is my guess as to what he is thinking.

Edit: Also I suppose if he does well there is the possibility of being moved before the trade deadline.

As usual, MBH being a massive Debbie Downer, with no real insight as to what's going on here. 2 year deals last year. One year deals this year. Pretty clear where this team is headed.

Next season you're gonna have Seider, Raymond, Veleno, Rasmussen, and McIsaac all promoted. Probably Berggren and possibly our 1st rounder too.

Flip was an attempt to find someone who could do the job that Nielsen wasn't. But unlike Nielsen this is the last year of Flip's contract.

Gagner is a right-hand shot signed for 1 year at league minimum. And remember he first came to the Wings along with 2 second round picks in the deal for AA.

As someone else mentioned, good players aren't going to be super excited to sign with a cellar dweller that's several seasons away from being good. You're going to get a lot of reclamation projects.
