Only $1M but gets to stay in the league. There's gonna be a lot of good players going over to Europe with the salary crunch in the NHL and the AHL season in serious jeopardy. If that's the final contract I can't not like it. Zero risk by the Red Wings and if he has any success at all he could be flipped to a contender for a decent asset.
For magic beans? Sure. I don’t mind the signing and it’s not like we’re going to spend our cap space elsewhere but still. Signing reclamation projects and hoping to get a 3rd or 4th RD pick 6 times isn’t the way to rebuild
His hands have been absolutely brutalized by an endless string of bizarrely random injuries so his shot and goal scoring isn't what it was, but he's still a very good stickhandler, playmaker and creative player offensively.
This is a solid, low-risk move by Yzerman. I really like this move. We need right handed forwards, and we need skill. If it works out for the year, we can resign him again, and if it doesnt work out then we move on.,
What's the harm for this for Detroit? A bad team signing a talented guy for dirt cheap to fill out the roster. Whatever they get out of him will be a plus, and you know he will be motivated to get his career back on track.
