Also Kadri and Gardiner are known commodities.

At the time of the Kessel deal the 1st rounders were unknown. Could have been top 5, could have been bottom 5 picks depending on performance.

Would I acquire Kessel for two firsts and a second? Yup

Would I acquire Kessel for Tyler Seguin and Dougie Hamilton? Hell no

This post is bang on :handclap:

Not to mention Toronto had nothing of any value to get a player like Kessel in the first place !

I believe Nonis is being hung out to dry since there are no replacements available now and that after we finish the year once again out of the playoffs they will can the entire front office and look for a young hotshot GM who will rebuild the front office from top to bottom.

Yep someone pretty like colangelo.

I just feel he is trying to be kind to Burke in that not dragging him through the mud.

What do you guys want to hear? You want him to say the guy was a ******* piece of **** to deal with. I hated the SOB, can't stand the guy?

You heard it people. They just didn't get along with the guy, too polarizing.

Yes.

Just like when a coach leaves a team the player who had battles with him says it is all behind them.

It is normal, and also avoids potential litigation.

Is the press conference on youtube yet? Or somewhere else?

It's clear to me that it all went down with one or two key issues:

1: Personal issues with Burke and the owners

2: The Luongo Deal (Happening or not, doesn't matter but that could have been the second reason to all of this)

We will find it all out in the near future. There are words to be spoken.

The timing tells it all - It's too weird and hazardious - Tells us that things have happened.

I believe it is because Burke had complete control, and the new owners were'nt too happy about it. If full autonomy wasn't an issue, why did Anselmi skirt around the issue when asked if Nonis had the same level of control? This whole thing stinks to the high heavens, and Nonis looks to be set up for failure.

Just draft Fucale.

Boom, now let's all move on.

Hey isn't Bernier still available? BERNIER TO TORONTO let's start it!

That should of been a hint that it wasn't a good idea lol

In another dimension those picks could have easily been someone or something else. It could've been that we had good stretch and won a game or two that snuck us into the playoffs.

As the other poster said, we traded kessel for two first rounders and a second, not for seguin and hamilton. No one would do it unless he was malkin. Regardless lets not stray from the topic any further folks.

Hopefully Nonis can bring us a better team performance then Burke did.

I really hope they dont trade Gardiner or Kadri for Luongo. I'd rather see Nonis trade Phaneuf and Kessel for prospects and rebuild this team properly (starting with Mackinnon this summer). Even if we get Luongo we are still far from a competitive team and we may not get to be one till he's in his late 30's.

Well what could of been is now moot since it has happened and it has blown up in our face.

All I was saying (since the point has been changed to critiquing the deal) that from a Philosophical point of view I agree with trading for Luongo with Kadri + Gardiner over trading top draft picks on a team that has not had success in quite some time for the reason that you know what you are giving up.

Tom Anselmi, pretty much admitted that it was a personality issue with Brian Burke and that is why he was fired

Nonis is Canadian right? What is Don Cherry going to complain about now?

Cox just said that Nonis was interviewed for the job before Burke was hired and said: "You need to gut this team and do a rebuild" and the MLSE suits didn't want to do that.

Why would we trade a top pairing d-man and an elite winger entering his prime to RESTART a rebuild?

good lord are we columbus? We do have some solid pieces on this team, we're really only missing a piece or two.

In Part this makes me think:

"MLSE can't possibly be stupid enough to think that firing the GM and most public figure in Toronto sports 1 week before the season would be a good PR move"

then I shake my head and realize... yes they really are that stupid.

I wonder why Bobbie Mac never pursued a managerial position. That's a guy who sounds like he'd do it right.

I Thinks this had to do with burke"s attitude towards the board nothing else, The bored liked the way the team was heading it's why they hired Dave to replace Burke and is keeping everyone who he hired.
You cannot tell everyone you fired Burke because you do not like his attitude.
