Just glad that the Canucks are making a patient decision and not a short sighted one based on what have you done for me lately.

If the reporting was correct he was on the trade market (or at least Vancouver was taking calls), so if they've halted that then yes patient now - likely at least in part because they won a few games before the break - but probably the better indicator of their faith in EP would have been if they shot down any trade talks altogether right from the start.

Ray Ferraro was on a Vancouver talk show and detailed how his knee tendonitis recovery was. Long story short, it affected his whole game, and he can rest 3 weeks and come back and nothing had changed. The weakness just lingers and stays there stubbornly.

I believe the team doctors underestimated the seriousness of his injury, like Dickinson's hand, Mikhayev's ACL, and worst of all, Pearson's wrist. Under Regan, they appear to prefer rest/rehab vs surgery. EP was likely instructed to rest his knee during the off-season, but maybe there was a misunderstanding what resting his knee means to EP vs management, and that's why organizationally, you can tell there is disappointment with EP's "preparation" coming into this year. Hence all the talk of expectations and what it takes to earn his AAV. If I'm Allvin, I will send him a live in chef and trainer this summer.

Unfortunately, the tendonitis lasted throughout his offseason until now, when it does go away, I think all the mechanics will align, the psychological second guessing and double clutching will disappear and that's when EP's consistency will return.

I think that first domino didn't fall until well into the season, hence the psychological mess he is right now. I think this year you will see him maybe get back to around sub 70 points. Which is around PPP pace. We won't see 100 point EP until next year. Management did the right thing to wait.

What optics? again, he has played with big bad Miller for 6years and has flourished. Nothing has changed this seasone except for the fact that Pettersson was hurt in the spring and couldnt train in the summer and came into the season with no strength. Media then just gaslights the rest.

If it really was a "health issue" (tendonitis), he never should have seen a trade-block to begin with.

There’s no way poor conditioning can still be used as an excuse when it’s been over 40 games already.

It’s not like he’s getting better, it’s 100% an injury.

Sure it can. We see this all the time with players that miss training camp, who are able to actually train properly all offseason. If Pettersson avoided lower body training for the majority of the offseason, it could absolutely explain why his numbers are down across the board. Gaining back any strength in the middle of a season is almost impossible.

It’s not like he’s getting better, it’s 100% an injury.

Trying to mush his numbers together to include his one big (so far outlier) year is not a great way to look at it. He's also rocking a negative GA/xGA differential so hard to say he's adding $11.5M in value defensively this year to make up for what he isn't producing offensively.

It looks like the Canucks got snookered here, I guess we'll see if the injury thing has merit because right now it doesn't look great for him or the team.

Skimming this thread it looks like a lot of us were correct that this was injury related through the conduit of not being able to train properly, our braintrust maybe not liking the training decisions he made and thus not supporting him publicly, and that it will still take time (maybe next season) for him to get his burst back.

Not shocked to see that the brigade who were against him and called the rest of us 'petey stans' are still digging in their heels. Why let new information change your opinion, right?

Bublé is pretty close with the organization and some of the players. I do think trading Petey was and still is a real option, but it sounds like there may have been something going on with Miller specifically that meant a change of scenery was going to be good for him personally.
