I dont get the need to put him in last nite. The team was on an extra short rest, travel. Woll or Kallgren could have easily started this game.
Agreed put woll in again. We need to see what we got there. Kallgren is donzo. No need to play him.

I'm not so worried about our goaltending.

Between Samsonov and Murray we are likely to luck out on one of the two being healthy for the playoffs and playing at serviceable enough level behind this team. The team is good enough to beat TB and it will be interesting to see how they look to improve before the deadline.

To be fair to Samsonov, he's been pretty steady outside of a handful of bad games this year. Even recently when you look at his bad games, he was never supposed to start against Ottawa and he was clearly still sick against Chicago and probably shouldn't have played. The Bruins game was the only one I really fault him 100% for. Tonight was the team's 3rd game in 4 nights and they collectively fell asleep in the third.

All in all given how he played last year and factoring in his cheap contract he's delivered pretty well.

Samsonov tracking to have his best season as an NHL goaltender. Sure he has let in a few stinkers, but he’s been also been mostly very good with some acrobatic clutch saves.

If Murray can play in 9 of the last 23 games, he will have played the most games since his 2019 season. Also tracking for his best season since 2018/19.

If they can finish off this season the way they started, you would have to say these goalie acquisitions have been a success for the regular season at least. Our depth goaltending filled in 12 games giving the 2 main goalies a reduced workload.

I’m pulling for Samsonov as the playoff starter, if he can get us deep in the playoffs, I’d be happy to see him as our starter on a 3 year contract.

Man Samsonov has been shaky.

Very streaky goalie, but when he’s on he’s on. He’ll bounce back
You could get this guy. I saw him last weekend.

@Mess loves to bring back old players, should we run a Sparks/ Pogge tandem?
I don’t follow the Solar Bears. I purchased EXTREMELY over priced 1st row tickets at a charity event so we went.
Did some research after and found that Rob Blake probably thought Sparks would be an NHL level backup. This is the 2nd year of a 2 yr. 700k per year contract.
Google says most ECHL players make 40k to 50k per year

For the ECHL most players aren't even close to that 40 to 50k

League Minimum is roughly $550/week.

Average would be about 25k/year.
I don’t really care but you referenced league minimum then wrote “average”.
Either way I’m thinking he picks up the tab for more than his share of meals.
700k is a long way from 25k or 50k.

i think it's pretty clear who the best goalie on this team is.

Maybe just maybe Murray can get hot like he did earlier in the season, but at this point he doesn't deserve to get the majority of starts. so unless he shuts the door and plays a monster game and then going on a streak, i don't see him overtaking Samsonov.

There is no way Samsonov shouldn't be started in the PO. The big question is who do you actually want to back him up with.

if murray is healthy you have to go with him as the backup. He won a cup and has been pretty good this year.... very good prior to his injury. to me it's pretty obvious.

but also i would give Samsonov a fair amount of rope as the playoff starter. He'd have to be pretty terrible to lose that role

Yes, we are all aware of how great you think your opinion is about goaltending, Mess.
Yup goaltending has been the demise of Dubas and certainly a hot topic of conversation among Leaf fans.

When your letting Curtis McElhinney (coming off an outstanding season) go to replace him with Garrett Sparks and then watch TB hoist the Cup with him, and Sparks was a hot mess.

Or signing Mrazek and then dealing your 1st to undo your own mistake, or gambling now on the injury prone and struggling Murray you have to expect fans to complain.

When opinions are correct, I guess it keeps some fans busy making excuses defending poor GM decisions, :)

...Tampa Bay was McElhinney's 2nd team after us (as is typical for the career journeyman backup he is), and he played a grand total of 0 playoff games during Tampa's cup runs, FYI.
Also interesting how you say "play the kids", and yet they played the kid who had just done everything possible to get an opportunity in the NHL, instead of losing him, and you call it a poor decision...

He traded down 13 pretty meaningless draft slots to get rid of Mrazek, and there's no reason to complain about our goaltending this year.
Your opinions on goaltending can be called a lot of things, but correct is certainly not one of them.

If moving down 13 spots in a draft is meaningless I encourage you to take a look at the value attached when trading from end of first round to the middle of the 2nd round.

Yup....no reason at all to be concerned with this year's goaltending. If you are happy with Murray and what he has "provided" than good on you....very easily impressed.

13 draft slots can have some value, but it depends what difference those slots represent. These 13 draft slots were in a range where there wasn't much difference in the quality of prospect obtained, and by all accounts, we got who we wanted anyway. Trade value only exists if there's a team willing to offer it, and it can fluctuate quite a bit depending on the draft and range. Also, for the record, 38th isn't middle of the 2nd round.
Either way, to suggest we traded away a 1st to dump Mrazek is incredibly misleading (just as it would be to say that we traded Mrazek for an early 2nd).
We've gotten the 9th best goaltending in the league (0.1 GSAx away from 7th) this year. That doesn't really seem worthy of complaint.
