Something doesn't smell right here if Murray is out for at least a couple weeks when Short term IR is only good for 7 days.
This feels like Leafs are waiting to see Woll in action a few games and then decide if Murray stays on IR or gets put on LTIR retroactive prior to all star break when he was injured.
They didn't say it would be "at least" a couple weeks. They said "it could be" a couple weeks. Nothing is smelly here. It's pretty simple. Murray went on IR to open up a roster spot. They don't need his cap right now, so there's no benefit to putting him on LTIR. It would just put limitations on his return for no reason.

Thanks KD

Looking forward to seeing him play Saturday Night

If Murray was put on LTIR I think there would be more concern with his injury.

So if Woll does well tonight, excited to see posts about shipping away Murray before the deadline as Woll will be capable to handle backup duties the rest of the way. Though, since Murray's contract is so awful, it will cost a 1st + just to move him out. But it must be done to free up space before the deadline!

If Woll struggles, excited to see posts that he is not an NHL goaltender, that we have no organizational goaltending depth and this is on Dubas. Now he must trade for MAF at all costs cause we need a goaltender ASAP!

I'm just joking but.......................................................

..............................................

............................ am I really?

I think I've nailed it personally.

I still like Murray despite the injuries and his lacklustre play leading up to his current IR stint. Something to be said about playoff experience that we could need if when we get to the dance Samsonov struggles under pressure.

The rise of Brick Woll and the demise of Murray was greatly exaggerated.

Woll looked better than in 2021 when he first came up and got a cup of coffee, but his development curve has been so flat I think you just expect him to be a backup at some point. Maybe he turns into Johnny Bower at 36.

Team didn't give any kind of extra effort to win it for him though.

Woll impressed me tonight. Not much he could've done on the goals. A couple fluky bounces, a rebound play and a point blank shot in a scramble. 40 shots against.

I've been saying the last few years that Woll needed to clean up his game in order to be an NHL goalie. In the last few years between his time with the Marlies and his brief stint with the Leafs, he needed to slow his game down. Too much movement and a tendency to swim forcing him into desperation scramble saves Instead of being poised and In control of his movements, allowing him to constantly stay square and in position. He also had a tendency to always end up on his rear after saves. He should always have good balance and keep his body upright, to give him the best chance to always be ahead of the puck and be as big as possible.

Tonight, I saw a guy who looked big, looked poised, had an upright position the whole Game. He looked sharp and fast. I didn't see much excess movement. Wasn't having to make a lot desperation saves due to his positioning and control. He looks more like an NHLer.

Murray is currently tied for 29th in Wins among goalies keeping some lofty company with some questionable backup goalies while still being considered Leafs hopes for the playoffs.

I personally wouldn't be counting on any of those other goalies for my teams playoff hopes.

In 2021 when he played 3-4 games, Woll seemed to be relying on his athleticism with lots of movement in net and at times caught off position after making the 1st initial save.

He looks very different in this first game; much calmer in net. I noticed that this year he tends to stand tall with head up above the players to track the puck away from the net.

I know the results were an L against CBJ but I thought Woll was really good. I hope he gets more chances because in due time, I think he can take on 2nd goalie spot on the team.

I was listening to a podcast last night and Woll spoke about how his approach has changed. He came across as someone to be very diligent and very focused in his desire to improve his game.

I am really excited about Woll. I think he has the potential to be great.

I always liked his demeanor. He seemed like a good kid, who was a real student of the game. Thats why I thought he would eventually make it. He always had the tools.

Except they really didn't. Columbus just piled up bad shots. Woll got unlucky with the illegal goal allowed, but he caused his own issues on the 2nd and 3rd goals.

Wins are not goalie stats, and it's especially misleading when ignoring GP.

All four BJ goals came in close in the slot.

Suppose there were a lot of garbage shots, that’s still unacceptable on the part of the Leafs defence.

The 21 shots that Woll faced in the 2nd period was the most shots the Leafs have given up all year to any team and this was the one in 32nd place.

You would have hoped the Leafs would have sheltered him better, but likely played their worst period of the season.

Yes, but not every inside chance should be a guaranteed goal. It also kind of ignores that Woll gave a horrific rebound off a weak backhand on the 2nd goal, Woll fumbled the puck in the crease and basically gave them a tap in on the 3rd goal, and the 4th goal was an illegal high stick. Overall, Columbus didn't generate much (despite the misleading shot total), but they capitalized on pretty much everything significant they did generate, and they were helped by a couple mistakes by Woll and a couple mistakes by the refs.
