Yeah give Woll a little action in relief after the break.
Woll will get into games but it won't change thevbreak downs we are have. We have a good defence but when we play teams that a heavy forcheck we aren't strong enough to break it up. The Ottawa and Boston were a good example.
We don't put anyone on there ass like Boston does .
Boston defence give no easy open spaces.

Folks it is very basic and simple .. our most important issue for last 30 games is making sure Murray is completely healed and healthy for game 1 of playoffs .. our 2nd most important issue is to give Woll some play time down stretch so he can feel NHL action if needed in playoffs if Murray goes down .. we are not fixing da basket mental case of Sammy .. Washington cut bait on their #1 pick not because of size athletics or technique but because he is a mental case

I mean we're basically rolling the dice come playoff time and hoping it works, our goalies can be so good but so bad

The tough thing about Murray fighting quality of performance in January and injuries in October and February is having $4.6 million locked up and only getting 19 games of service. For a team playing Moneyball with half its roster, that's a pretty big luxury turned albatross if it doesn't work out.

Has there been an update on Murray? I'm wondering if they look to acquire a goalie, Woll has been great in the AHL but this is a top 5 team, I have a hard time believing if Murray is down they want to go with Samsonov and a rookie.

Yes there are exceptions but generally a rookie in net come playoff time is a bad idea.

This isn't attached to his earlier problems and the abductor in particular. The update is supposed to be February 9th according to SN. If its a high ankle injury the recovery time can be 30 to 45 days but the language used doesn't suggest that so 2 to 3 weeks for a typical sprain. He could be ready by February 10th with luck but he doesn't seem to have much of that. Fingers crossed.

Matt Murray is either injured or inconsistent. It is time, as Kenny Rogers said, “to know when to fold ’em.” What are the possibilities, costs and savings of a buyout? And are there complications since the Senators are paying a quarter of his salary? Could they reject doing so even though it would save them a bit in order to stick it to the Leafs?

— Phil F, Ottawa

A Murray buyout is actually quite appealing. The Sens have no say and would have to live with the consequences, though the money might help them get to the cap floor with the way they run things. For the Leafs, the cap hit in 2023-24 would be $687,500 (U.S.), a significant savings off his average annual value of $4,687,500 (for the Senators, it’s $229,167). For the Leafs in 2024-25, when the cap is expected to rise significantly, the buyout hit would be $2 million (for the Senators, $666,667).

The real tough thing is so many of us saw this exact thing coming

This latest Murray so called injury is fishy. Let’s dissect it.
he is in a regular rotation and has a couple of bad games. Sammy gets the next 5 or so starts. Keefe decides to give Murray a game. In the pre game Nylander hits him with a high shot on the shoulder and Murray skates off and pulls himself from the game. Then we hear it’s a flair up of an ankle injury.
Lets think about this, he sat on the bench for 5 games and in that time he would have participated in any practices, morning skates and pre game skate and no problems. First time his is scheduled to be the starter he get a shot up high in pre game and quits.
I would argue that the problem is between the ears.

What I'm noticing about samsonov is his conditioning needs to be stepped up. If we spend a lot of time in our zone he seems gassed later in the game.
If he's willing to commit to improving there as well, he's a keeper.

Just do what caps did to win cup. Play the goalie whose better over 82 games in regular season, then play the goalie whose better fully rested in 7 game spurts.

I really don't know whose who from what we have but my guess is samsonov regular season, Murray playoffs

Also another example of why playoffs is not same as regular season. So if soft as butter D doesn't get some sand paper it doesn't matter whose in net

I think folks are a bit too harsh on Samsonov and this goalie situation .. they're not elite but when you compare it with what other options were there last off-season, Samsonov has been a solid pickup providing steady average goaltending, while having the ability to steal a game here and there.

He hasn't been far off Kuemper, Georgia, Vanecek .. and he's been better than Fluery and Husso. All have had their ups and downs. For his price tag, he's been a great value signing.

I hated the Murray trade and still am not fond of it. The injuries were easy to see coming. He had a nice early run to start the year but the up and down play has me concerned about his ability. Still, he can redeem himself if he shows up in the playoffs if needed.

If Toronto had got a 1st round pick from Ottawa to take on Murray which is how Dubas traded Mrazek to Chicago, would you have liked the trade a little more?

I guess the one difference is Chicago took on 100% of Mrazek's contract, whereas Ottawa retained 25% of Murray's contact.

What we got with Murray was more valuable than the 13 pretty negligible draft slots we traded to get rid of Mrazek.
I agree it was worth it what Dubas did to get rid of Mrazrek and his contract.

I only asked @BertCorbeau if he thought Dubas should have got a little more in return from Ottawa like a 1st round pick when they traded for Murray. I want to say that was the talk before the trade was made announced.

I never replied

Yes I would have liked it a lot more because that 1st is a massive asset which would offset the risk they take in Murray rebounding.

There is zero chance that Murray at 4.7m would have returned a 1st. Media was just throwing around crazy talk before the trade, as they do. What we got was pretty standard.

Yeah no doubt botched the Murray trade, can't get them all right.
