I think Dubas needs to find a way to part ways with Murray. I don't think our skaters are going to trust him moving forward.

Pulling himself from the game pre-puck drop om Friday was not right. I wonder if he feared facing his former team?

It sure put Samsonov on the spot when he didn't prepare to be the starter.

Matt's injury troubles might be turning toxic. JMHO.

Great job for Samsonov in beating his former team today!!! That's how it's done.

I don't think we need to do anything with Murray until the offseason. He had an all-world November, a good solid December and the wheels came off in January. Now he seems to be getting hurt randomly and ready to miss time. I think we can squeeze more hockey out of him but if not, throw him on LTIR, get Samsonov signed and just move on.

I find the bolded a bit weird and I feel like we heard that on the panel tonight as well. But playing devil's advocate, if in warmup he felt something wasn't right but decided to stay in cause it felt late to remove one's self, then playing injured could have led to awful results too. Which also wouldn't be putting the team first. And if he aggravated his injury further causing him to be out longer, that doesn't help the team either.

Either way, crappy situation, but if you feel something get worse in warm up and don't think you are then capable of playing, he made the right move. I'd rather have someone play unexpectedly who is healthy than play someone who is ready but injured.

Murray made some comments about how athletes are handled properly in Toronto earlier this season, insinuating the care in Ottawa wasn't that great. But he also seems like a bit of a high maintenance athlete you have to treat with extreme care.

I like that Samsonov is running with the opportunity so the Leafs don't have to rely on an injury-prone Murray .. but Murray does have two cups and experience in the playoffs that could be very valuable for a run if he can stay healthy.

Maybe the Leafs just use the idea of Murray competing with Samsonov to keep Samsonov motivated. Murray was a fortress for November and parts of December, but his injuries and feeling of unreliability seems to also be a feature in his makeup.

I'd like them to give Joe Woll some work whilst Murray is out. If he's the real deal, buying Murray out after this year would be an option. He'd have a $687,500 cap hit next year and $2M in 2024-25 when the cap is supposed to go up.

The starter was pulled in both stanley cup runs, so whether he starts on the bench or in the game we are still on track
:sarcasm:

Matt Murray is giving me some pretty strong Freddie Andersen vibes. We need to find a way to dump that contract cause a fragile backup making that much against the cap is absolute murder.

Samsonov is gonna need (and has earned) an extension, how is Pridham gonna pull another magic trick?

Keefe is going to have to make a high pressure decision on who to start in the playoffs. I think as we've seen with the canes most recently. It's hard to try to switch back and forward and win big

Unless Murray is playing terribly or hurt or samsonov is even better then he currently is I think he starts with Murray

Bold prediction

Sammy takes care rest of the season, Murray gets up to speed, takes over near the end. Plays the first round, gets us over the hump, gets hurt after winning game 6 to win the series... Sammy comes in and does the rest, or maybe to finals atleast.... But yeah. That's my take/dream
Lol

Either way. Sammy playing well, that's good news!

We come back with a home and home against Columbus. Good spot to get him a game in.

Man quality of coverage stinks here. I'm sure the guy who played against Pittsburgh his former team in his first game back is scared of facing his former team in Ottawa.
Murray is just injury prone. There is nothing more to the story.

Solid night for Samsonov last night. I like the idea of one of them establishing themselves as the starter for the playoffs. If Murray bounces back and makes it interesting, all the better. If he can't regain his earlier play with all the healthcare and coaching the Leafs can throw at him, he never will. Long term, if Samsonov keeps this up and plays well into the playoffs (maybe we can steal a game/series for once) he is the starter for us going forward.

Samsonov seems to be better when he's got momentum trying to steal Murray's job than when he feels secure in the nets. When Murray is sucking he has that first year Jack Campbell vibe stealing Andersen's job and when he's on the verge of taking the job he looks like last year's Jack Campbell struggling with the reality of having the job...

Samsonov has seen a lot of time in net recently. The upcoming schedule (ASG break and a couple of back-to-backs soon after play resumes) should at least help out in alleviating that particular issue.
