I honestly won't be surprised if Murray ends up the go to guy for the majority of the Leafs playoff time

His cold moments aside, he's mentally understands the postseason the most. Young guys run the risk of getting rattled too easily
Dam this didn’t age well. Lol. Murray didn’t even make it thru warmup before he bailed out

We're learning that Matt Murray is both the guy who understands the post season and is a proven winner, and given us rock solid goaltending. And a high maintenance, injury prone and sometimes unreliable goalie. Both statements can be true and even in the same week.

I liked the samsonov signing, high pedigree athletic goalie on a 1 yr 1.8 mil caphit..understand it. I have no clue what glue dubie dubes was sniffing when he made that Murray trade, but screwing that up by acquiring an unreliable injury prone goalie like Murray at a 4.7 mil caphit no less puts a lot of pressure on samsonov. You made your bed dubas, time to lay in it

I would definitely look into moving Murray in the summer (for positive assets).

With Sammy looking good and some talking about moving Murray and resign Sammy, I wonder if somebody would take Murray for the 3rd and 7th Dubas got to take him. He is owed $8m next year and whatever remains of the $7m he was owed this year. He has limited NMC though.

If no, shows you how bad the trade was.

If yes or no sweetener required, the trade was not so bad.

Both statements are true but the 1st describes Murray 5 years ago and the 2nd describes him now.

We'd be more likely to get another 3rd and 7th than have to spend it.

It's fair if you come to the conclusion that he's not your guy and don't like him. The Leafs seem to be leaning a bit that way. But he played extremely well in November and was good in December.

Last year Murray was supposed to play his former team the Penguins and pulled himself from the game due to injury. This year in two games against his former team the senators he gets hurt. Once in the morning skate and once during warm ups right before the games about to start. Is this a coincidence ? It almost seems like this guy doesn’t wanna play hockey anymore. You can’t have this nonsense going on in the playoffs.

I think if we trade him we have to wait until he's healthy and on a few games hot streak. If that ever happens. In the meantime get Woll up and see if he can do the backup duties (before trading Murray), otherwise we'll be trading a goalie and then shopping for another goalie, all before the playoffs. Also, can Woll stay healthy?

He did play against the Pens this season and had a great night, so it's probably just a coincidence that he's missed both games against Ottawa rather than a fear of playing a former team. Still, he's clearly made of glass and can't be counted on at all. There's a reason the Leafs were paid assets to take him

It's truly what have you done for me lately with our fanbase. And maybe you can't blame them. But it's wild. Literally day to day swings.

Last year with Campbell it went from "Dubas was stupid not signing this guy at 5x$3M in the summer" to "Dubas better not re-sign this guy, he was stupid to not get an upgrade" literally within about a 4-game swing.

This year it's all over the place too. I can remember in December right around the holidays. Samsonov came off of a rough start vs. his former team, let in a few late squeakers against the Flyers in the next gen day game and then wasn't great vs. the Blues in the OT win. Sandwiched between that, Murray won a huge game against the Lightning.

At that point it was clearly Murray, he was the guy, he was tremendous and his experience in big games will help in the playoffs. I can remember it was said Samsonov was too busy/swimmy in his crease and yada yada. Since then, Samsonov his picked up his play while Murray had bad outings vs. the Kraken and Panthers and then tweaked something. We now see trade proposals to send him to the sun and attaching picks to the rocket.

Samsonov could be horrible vs. the Caps and Bruins and then Murray could come out of the break healthy, play well and win a few games and he would be the guy again. Obviously Samsonov is playing better right now and is healthy, so that says a lot going forward.

But I also still think you cannot discount Murray's experience. Let's face it, this board loves playoff experience. It was a huge factor when Muzzin came over. And every year we see trade proposals here where the player would be great cause he has experience. But because Murray is Murray, it's just brushed off.

I'm not saying Murray should be the guy, but if at playoff time if he's healthy (yes a big if) and the play between the two goalies are equal or even if Murray is slightly below Samsonov, I'd still be inclined to lean to Murray. We talk about how we need big game performers, players who don't let the pressure get to them, can recover and let things wash off their backs easily, especially in this market. Sounds like Murray to me.

If Samsonov is the guy at playoff time due to play and/or health, of course he's the guy. I just find it funny how quickly someone is going to be raised to the rafters to then being driven to the airport.
