Probably have to keep him off the market for awhile now. I can’t see anyone trading for him right now, and haven’t talked to anyone who who doesn’t think teams are real hesitant about taking on his $11.6 for the next 7 years.

Maybe Buffalo would if the Canucks take another contract teams are hesitant about, with Dylan Cozens??

Who else has a 5-7 year deal (Vancouver would take) that would help those concerns? Maybe Washington with PLD? How’d that feel Vancouver fans? Talk about scared of the contract.

Servalli is right though, as he said to the Calgary guys…. we’ve heard nothing but excuse after excuse from the Canucks and the Pettersson camp since he signed that contract. Right now, he has the worst contract in the league. Who ever thought that would be the case this soon?? Other than maybe JT Miller of course.

If there’s a pre-requisite, and there is, that the Canucks will have to take a similar scary contract in return, there’s not many options. Even Mittlestadt’s deal is only for a couple more years. They’ll have to take someone with term in return, to get a team to bite.

Everything the Canucks touched last year turned to gold. The hockey gods are repaying them this year. Wait until Boeser walks for free and Demko gets traded for peanuts at the draft, just to be a Vezina finalist next season.

I’m not sure the Hockey Gods are done messin with the Canucks yet.

Some hab fans are.

Obviously if he gsts back to how he has played, probably every team is interested.

His currently play, though makes a lot of people hesitant.

The tricky part is that if he is playing at his previous level, Vancouver should also be interested and their offer is hard to beat.

So if there is reason to believe that EP’s struggles are temporary, this is the only chance to get him. A risky move, without a question, but potential upside is huge.

Yeah, that's why I said previously Vancouver wanted more than what people were offering and they're well within that right to do so.

You don't want to be the team that trades away a 26 year-old centre who could get back to hitting 90, or over 100 points a season.

Time to put him back on the market.

I'd take a young centre, a decent prospect and a 1st at this point.
Cozens
Conditional 1st (if Sabres make playoffs its 2025, if not it's 2026)
Viktor Neuchev (B- prospect, some Sabres fans are high on him, I expect him to be a 3rd line winger, maybe middle 6)

If the Canucks are "shopping" him, I'd start with that package and see what the thoughts are.

Not going to get much for him right now. But they’d be smart to look at a trade in the summer. This guy isn’t a foundational player imo. Massive attitude problem, zero confidence, constant barking on the bench but sure it was JT’s fault lol this guy was held accountable by JT and he whined to his GM to get him traded. Maybe EP was and continues to be the problem

Ugh, I mean, yeah this season for VAN is cursed, but they are still likely to make the playoffs, especially after getting Hughes back. For EP40, since they do still have the window of post-season pre-July 1st to make a deal happen, there is no reason to deal him unless it's an amazing deal. I think they (and certainly I) would much prefer doing everything they can to support him for the rest of the season, and only if there is no sign of improvement, use the time of the draft, when major roster decisions are being made across the league anyway, to work out a sensible risk/reward type of trade (BUF would make sense).

The one option I could see resulting in a pre-TDL trade is, considering how much CAR seemingly wants him (he was not performing well at all when they supposedly had a deal in place for a better return than Rantanen), if they go after him again to make up for Rantanen supposedly not being willing to extend there, they can structure a deal with VAN around Rantanen, then VAN can flip Rantanen either as a rental, or to a team he IS willing to extend with (if there is one):

To CAR: EP40
To VAN: Rantanen (no extension or retention)+

Then, for example:

With extension (obviously this only makes sense if CAR isn't interested in the same return, or has reservations with certain teams, like NYR, being the destination):

To NYR for Lafreniere+

To LAK for Byfield+

To MIN for Ohgren, '26 1st+

Without extension:

To WPG for Perfetti/Yager/Lambert + Iafallo +

To DAL for Bourque+

To NJD for Mercer+

Then you work out a deal or two to add a promising young C, if one hasn't already come back in a Rantanen deal. I think the idea of building the team around Hughes and a couple excellent wingers (e.g. Laf with some development), with capable but not star Cs, could work fine.

For an offseason, pre-July 1st deal, it's probably too many moving pieces, but I like this idea for VAN/BUF:

EP40, Hronek <--> Cozens, Byram, Kulich, R. Johnson (Byram would probably end up playing his off-side, but it should work fine with Hughes or MP)

Doubt BUF is eager to deal Kulich, though

JT was also a problem though, he had many run ins with other players during his time here. They are both not foundational players.

We wouldn't move Cozens AND Kulich in this type of deal.

Personally, I'd rather move Power than Byram. I think Power is a 55- maybe 60 pt dman in his prime. I think he has a high floor but lower ceiling. I think Byram is a 70- maybe 75 pt dman at his best while providing for good 2way play. Power is younger with term at 8 mil (not too oppressive aav especially with rising cap) and should hold high value.

I just think at the pinnacle of their careers Byram will be much better and ultimately IMO we can only keep 2 out of 3 dmen after we have to extend some of the young players.

By not playing a team game, playing like shit in his own right, not back checking and leaving the team for 10 games when they were tight in the playoff race.

edit: and he's a 31 year old locker room cancer who still needs to be babysat by veteran players.

He is clearing hurting mentally and physically (knee). No confidence right now. The guy is an elite 2-way center when on top of his game. I have faith he will get back there again. He just needs find a B-game for when other things aren't going right. Like when Joe Thornton lost all his speed and was still super effective litereally standing in one spot in the O zone. Petey will figure it out, and I really hope its with the Canucks.

Because we will get fleeced in any trade, and we most likely lose Hughes too if we hit rebuild mode.
