They also lost the only line that was really contributing offence in the first 2 games in Sokolov-Khovanov-Zavgorodniy. . They scored 6 of Russia's 7 goals vs the Q but they only get to play in games against the Q.
I was assured that didn't matter and jet lag shook off would solve any such problems.

Mostly due to jetlag and the famous canadian scheduling. No worries. It's game 3 where the guys out of Russia will have slept the jetlag off.

Well, even if they did, they still couldn't score. I'm glad, we won't have to rely on them as top6 players. Our KHL guys and Khovanov-Zavgorodniy will make a good top6.

I went to the game tonight, who is that Kruglov kid? He was the most dangerous forward on the ice for the Russians. I see that he's an undrafted '00 born guy, potential free agent? Is he a guy who's just not likely to want to come to NA?

Well, he plays in the KHL for Dynamo Moscow, so he probably does have some skill. He was 3+2 and -10 in 29 games in the VHL last season, though.

Good to see draft eligible OHL players like Byfield, Perfetti, and Drysdale step up and get on the scoresheet against an older Russian team.

I imagine it will be a rocking crowd for the next game in London on Monday night following this 4-1 win for the OHL.

Canada had a really excellent performance in Game 3, and Russia was awful! Maybe Russia's poor performance had something to do with jet lag, or maybe Canada's high level of play just made Russia look awful, but I have seen more life and energy in airport lobbies at 3:30 in the morning than Russia showed in this game! It cheats the fans who would rather see a competitive contest.

I wouldn't be surprised if basically a third of Canada's WJC team came from the OHL team last night. It's good that the team looked decent.

Yeah, and it wasn't probably even a third of Russian WJC team... Another issue can be, that, as people say, day 5 since arriving is usually the toughest day jetlag wise.

Which Russian players from Game 3 will be on the U20 roster in December? One is Rotenberg, obviously. He qualified at birth. After that, Morozov and Podkolzin are likely to be selected. They are returnees from last year's team. Groshev has shown considerable talent, skill and strength in the first 3 games, but he is likely too young to be selected by Bragin. Beyond them, I just don't see anyone else as good prospects for making the team.

If any of the defensemen make the roster, Russia has got a real problem! A couple of "little guy" forwards have looked decent, but they can't play in front of the net. Of the CHL participants in the series, only Khovanov and Zavgorodny look like good prospects. They were borderline on being selected last year, but missed the cut. Russia will have to rely on guys like Denisenko and Dorofeyev from the 4 Nations roster to have a chance to win that Bronze Medal that they will be fighting for.

I don't understand why the Russian posters (only three or so, typically) seem to get so upset every year about losing games in the CHL-Russia series. It's an exhibition series that exists for player assessment purposes. I can't imagine caring about the results of the games or the series.

Definitely agree with Jet leg issues. What a grind it would be to come over and then play in 3 different time zones in a little over a week. The whole trip would be an absolute grind for the russian guys not already over here.

Man, I was grown up in USSR, when any defeat of any Soviet hockey team was considered unacceptable, and I still can't get rid of this "bad habbit".

I don't think Russian posters care so much about the result as they do the lack of effort in Game 3. You always want your team to show up and make a good account for themselves. Obviously, jet lag is a real human physiological condition, but it shouldn't be used as an excuse for a poor performance. After all, Russia accepted the conditions for the tournament in advance, so why complain now?

In fact, Russia receives a real tangible benefit(s) for this tournament, which is why they are interested in continuing it. For Canada, I think the main benefit is that allows CHL teams to effectively recruit Russian players, which they seem to continue to want to do. Without the series, Russian CHL'ers would be effectively cut out of international competition, and removed from the view of KHL teams, should their dreams of glory in the NHL not pan out!

I can respect that mentality I suppose.

Well, that's certainly an interesting theory. It seems more likely that it's a chance to assess players for the WJC while making a bit of money, and Russia brings in name value that the other hockey countries don't. I suppose USA could work except that the NCAA is too big of an obstacle.

it's day 5 that is the toughest day with jetlag, I did not know that.

Looks like our master plan with our scheduling is not working as the Russians played our best team with the most jet leg. We should have had them play the Q, our worst team, on day 5 of the “jet leg saga”.

:sarcasm:

That “awful” team was jumbled together for one practice beforehand and lost one of the two games by one goal. I count as many as 7-8 players from Russia’s roster (against the Q team) that should be on its junior team. If the Q team was “awful,” then what does that say about Russia’s team?

It is likely only Lafreniere (didn’t play), McIsaac (didn’t play), Rodrigue, Lavoie and maybe 1 other from the Q make team Canada.
LOL You have no idea about the russian team. 7-8 players from THAT roster? You also just discard the fact Russia had to play back to back games right after travelling for 20 hours and across the ocean time zone wise. And this year this is basically Russia's B-team. Live with it. This is the argument Canadians use all the time. Only this time all Russia's top talent is in another tournament. How bad was that team Q if they could not beat our B-team that was jetlagged and gassed?

But I was actually just telling what I saw. I saw a bad team. I don't care how many of them will or will not make the WJC squad. And the results show exactly that. This year all CHL team should be able to beat this russian squad easily. Especially in the first two games that because of unsurmountable difficulties for the CHL to make a schedule yet again were back to back after going trough how many time-zones for Russians.

Yeah but that would screw with our time tested formula snipes and these are games we simply must win, all t.v sets in Canada are tuned into this illustrious and historic/ tradition fueled challenge.

Both Canada and Russia benefit from this 6 game mini tournament.

There’s a reason Russia as our historical biggest rivals play in this series and not any other country.

The series benefits both nations.

For the glory of our frozen kingdom and hockey empire.

Podkolzin, Morozov, Khovanov, Zavgorodniy, Savunov, Malyshev and Miftakhov are 7 that I see consistently found in projected rosters by Russian posters on this forum and others. Are they that far off base?
