This signing doesn’t do much to improve the current situation, I agree. But the top 4 guys got overpaid, and the Hawks aren’t in a position to overpay (money and term) anymore older vets.

You have to think they believe Forsling will be the second-pairing LHD this year, and they didn’t need to overpay a De Haan for that reason.

Despite what Kunitz and Q believe, Kunitz was signed to be the 12th or 13th forward.

The top-9 is pretty much full, at least to start the season and assess where guys are at. JvR was way too expensive, and I think they want to see a top-9 with the guys below:

2. Schmaltz
3. DeBrincat
4. Toews
5. Saad
6. Anisimov
7. Hinostroza
8. Sikura
9. Hayden (I believe they want to see him in the top-9, and that’s why Hartman was expendable)
