1 year of UFA. He could have held out for that 1 year to not be included at this price, or he could have easily simply held out for $7m/yr or more. I think most Flames fans would have given him $7mx6 yrs, or $6.75m for 5 and his quickest road to UFA. I agree, I think he left a little on the table here.

The Flames only got 1 UFA year but 6 years is a lot of time and Gio cap comes off in 6 years, so in 6 years, it can be 8 years at $12 million(if needed), all the Flames have to do is, get a good looking Calgary, girl for Johnny, marry them and Johnny is stuck in Calgary.
