Good cap but only 1 ufa year, kinda worried about him leaving after this ordeal, but we will corss that bridge when we get there. Just happy it got done

6 years is still a long time, and the Flames will have him for a huge chunk of his top seasons, for a great caphit at that.

Surprised it is under 7. Flames management did a good job here.

Agree with this. Just glad that he's on the ice, and the NHL needs it's skilled players actually playing.

True story.

Johnny should make sooooooo much more. He should have the $8 million AAV contract, not Stamkos

There is value in taking less for Gaudreau too. He hits UFA 2 years sooner than he would on an 8 year deal. If he keeps playing like he did last year, the extra money he will make in those 2 years would dwarf the little bit extra he would get by getting a little extra on this deal, especially if the cap keeps rising. And I don't think anyone realistically believed he'd et 8 x 8 after ONE good season anyway.

Is it too much to ask for the posters who were doubting this to come forward and say they were wrong? Or will they slink back to their own team boards quietly?

For everyone talking about this being a big bargain, keep in mind that this was a player that had the least amount of negotiating power possible (RFA not even eligible to sign offer sheets) and they only bought 1 UFA year. So Gaudreau still did very well for himself here IMO. If it would've gone 8 years, I suspect it would've been closer to the $8M Johnny was requesting.

The term makes the $6.75 number reasonable. He hits UFA a little later but he can still head back east and cash in.

1 UFA year is admittedly not great, but he's a UFA at 29. Usually, a player who signs an 8 year deal out of their ELC is also 29. They got his prime at a fair (but potentially amazing, if he stays at his level) cap hit.

So that's what Kucherov should get?

The thing with Kucherov is I don't think Tampa thinks he's not worth big money long-term. Its that they don't have the cap right now to give him that deal unless they find a way to move out salary, and their 2 biggest salary dumps in Callahan and Filppula both have NMC's.

Yup I imagine McDavid will get that after his ELC, over 8M.

Guaudreau no negotiating power, still got paid more than pretty much all the young stars for his first contract.
