Calgary doesn't know how to treat superstars.

On a more serious note, this teenaged kid is making a lot of dough.

Even more seriously, this is a steal for Calgary.

That's actually very great for the Flames.
That's too bad. Was hoping for 10 million per or a trade. Which I suppose is a compliment to the player.

Wow that's cheap, what a deal.

Those that spread the rumours were out of loop completely. Character deal from Gaudreau.

Exactly. Anyone who believed this 8 million baloney was out to lunch.

This is a totally fair deal. In between the ~6 million forwards (Saad, Forsberg, etc) and Tarasenko.

Well, that's when the window closes. Brad won this negotiation, and I really hope JG can bring the level he has shown so far. It feels like this only starts a countdown until he's gone though.

They got the average they wanted, but they also didn't get 8 years either. Gaudreau came down from his demands, quite significantly likely, but the Flames only bought one UFA year.

I expected he'd get 7-7.5 over 8, but at 6 years this makes sense. If I was the Flames I'd rather have him for 8 years at the higher AAV, but this deal is fine I suppose.

Good deal to build a contender in the next 6 years. Guess they didn't want to blow past Giordano to lock him up for 8.

Glad this got announced before my fantasy draft tonight.

6.75M is a very good deal for a PPG winger. My guess also is that this deal covers his best years so the Flames won't have to give him a 10M per year contract once this one is over.

Well, they lose two years of Johnny but get a cheaper cap hit for 6.

Makes sense for the Flames, and for Johnny as he can cash in @ 29 for what will eventually be a ridiculous paycheque.

Took a bit less but only 6 years so he can leave Calgary after the deal

Pretty good deal, I think Calgary would have really been better off locking him into an 8 year deal though. Gaudreau is one of the best forwards in the league, and he's now scheduled to be a UFA in 6 years which is dangerous.

That said, I think $6.75M per is a pretty good price for the next 6 years, but I think if Calgary was honest with themselves, they would know that they won't be competing for a cup in the next 6 years anyway, and would be better off making sure they have Gaudreau for years 7 and 8 even if it means paying a little bit more now.

So I have mixed feelings overall about it, but I'm happy he won't miss any games this year from my fantasy pool's perspective!
