Rangers fan here.
Why has Savard been benched then demoted this year, Is he struggling?
I was thinking he would be a good fit on the Rangers as a #6D/PP specialist from the right side, if he is passed by other D prospects and the price is right.

If Savard is moved he could probably be a PP specialist soon. He's got the instincts that can't be taught.

Its questionable if he'll ever play a good overall game. I don't know if its conditioning/laziness/body type (he was a fat kid in junior, junk food eater). I'm sure he is looking for a change in scenery though, as there are about 10 defenceman ahead of him on the Jackets depth chart and he hasn't endeared himself to JD.

When they sent down Holden and Savard, JD said on HOme Ice that one needed to work on his strength, the other his foot speed. You can guess which one was which.

Thomas Larkin's NCAA career is over tonight, so he could end up with an ATO with Springfield. He was a 5th round pick in 2009. 6'5 right-shooting defenseman, played for Italy in the WC, co-captain for Colgate. He's a long-shot to get signed by the Jackets.

I'd love it if he could play his way into a contract. First Italian-born-and-trained player? :)

Question for the board? Who has more value between Moore and Erixson. Just wondering people's thoughts?

Erixon, mostly because he has more offensive upside. Both have been steady defensively this year.

I doubt Moore will ever top 20 pts. I see Moore as mostly valuable at zone exits and playing sound defence. But Erixon's d-game is catching up to Moore's, and his offensive game has a much higher ceiling. He also looks like he'll be a really good PP QB.

Not arguing but curious. Why?

I would describe Erixon at this time as sound defensively with offensive numbers that aren't indicative of his talent or contributions. That's exactly how I would describe Moore's play last year.

So Erixon jumps ahead mainly because Moore hasn't had played enough NHL games this season. Remember, all the Springfield fans said Moore was the better of the two during the lockout.

Looking back at the 2009 Draft Class:

1st Round - 19th - John Moore (Erixon was selected 2 spots later)

2nd Round - 56th - Kevin Lynch - soon will be completing his NCAA career, has had a very good games lately, but still questions about his offensive ability.

4th Round - 94th - David Savard - looked like an steal for a long while, now a lot of question marks, could be trade fodder.

5th Round - 137th - Thomas Larkin - had a solid but unimpressive college career for a so-so team. Pro potential is questionable.

6th Round - 167th - Anton Blomqvist - another longshot huge defensemen but has struggled with injuries and the transition. Barring a huge turnaround, he's a bust.

7th Round - 197th Kyle Neuber - wasted draft pick on a fighter with no offensive ability.

What are the odds McIllhaney comes up to backup Bob next season, clearing a spot for Dansk? I'm not exactly advocating this, just curious.
