Why not? Both entered the league Young with similar numbers, both played on a awful team, both are highly regarded prospects etc
There is some merit to that surprising comparison. But 6 goalies were drafted in first 2 rounds from Mason’s class of 2006, none of them was Steve while Hart was first of his class in mid 2nd.
draft rank not really important 8 years later but not sure Mason was a highly regarded prospect. Underrated player sure. Played great in Philly despite the usual « cant find a goalie for decades« stuff.

MTL is 100% not including that FLA first in a trade for PLD. What's the point when you can have him for free next year. Plus hed make our team better for nothing which would equal in a bad pick (probably between 12-16 which would be terrible). We're trading for him only if the price fits. Dvorak, Kidney and Mesar is the max Id go (I don't like including Mesar but with the high probability that we end up with Benson, I could live with it).
Habs ain't trading Kidney for PLD.

Allen having yet to start playing on his new 2yr contract would be a tough sell.
2nd 23 is a nice add that Phi would likely consider.
Ylonen not highly regarded but could next step like Cates, Frost, Tippett who all at least doubled their output and get 40 next year and maybe more at his peak. Problem is he plays rw and that position is not a need.

Dubois is a bona fide 2C in the NHL, 60 pts scorer and might beat that this season. Will be 25 years old at the start of next season...
Kidney is a good prospect at this point, but I'd trade him for PLD in a heartbeat. It's not like Kidney is a can't miss, and it's not like he's penciled as a first-line stud in the becoming.
Now, there might be character flaws that Montreal's management don't like with Dubois, but idk them as a fan and if these are serious considerations, you just don't acquire him whatever the price...
You do bot trade top prospects when you are dealong from the position of strenght.
I'd much rather trade the 2024 1st rd pick with a Top15/20 protection that slides to 2026 (cause we want yo be in the Misa draft), than Kidney. 2024 draft looks like verrry average so if our pick is 20+, said prospect will he worse than Kidney and 2-3 ywars away from the NHL

Ok I agree that you can definitely negotiate. But to imply that "Kidney" is the deal breaker is a bit strange.
We don't even know if he's a can't miss to play in the NHL, he's still very much a lottery ticket.
Kidney was the best player in the Q this year. Don't tell me Dumais was. Kidney was a force offensively and defensively.
I have no issue with dealing prospects, but none of our top10 should he traded in a deal where we can just wait til summer 2024 to sign the guy.

Should not be included in any deal. Mysak. struble, kapanen, go for it...

We have plenty of #5/6 tweener D-man in our pipeline. It's not a valuable commodity. If Zamula and Attard were in the habs system they both would have had more ice time and points than Harris this year for MTL.
