This is the first game in long time where I was completely confident in the Rangers defensive structure. They have been doing a much better of job of limiting shots and tonight they pretty much shut down a top offensive team. Defensemen all played well and the forwards were picking up their checks and playing a full sheet game. There is something very good happening here. A tip of the hat to Jacques Martin for some excellent work that is starting to pay off.

This and not turtling in the 3rd with a lead. Push back on opponents and take the game to their zone at every opportunity.

Chytil and Blackwell in for Howden and Gauthier.
+ DeAngelo for Bennett and more faceoff wins.
+ Zibanejad starts scoring.
+ Everyone else plays like they did last night

= Contender.

Ovechkin passes Gartner on NHL goals list, but Capitals lose to Rangers

The defenseman carried the puck behind the net, regathered it in the corner after getting hit by Hagelin, and went up the left-wing boards. He avoided a hit from Washington forward Nic Dowd, cut to the middle, eluded a stick check from Capitals defenseman John Carlson and beat Vanecek with a backhand from between the hash marks.

It was his first goal in 113 games, since Nov. 18, 2017 with the Nashville Predators.
"It was magical," Bitetto said. "I usually don't score those type of goals. You put that [Rangers] jersey on, weird things happen."

Bitetto grew up a Rangers fan in Island Park, New York, 30 miles from Madison Square Garden. It was his third NHL goal in his 185th game, including the past two with the Rangers.
"It's funny, my last three goals were disallowed," Bitetto said. "I scored that tonight and my mindset was just like, 'Please allow it, don't challenge this one. I need it.' Thank God [they] didn't."

Kakko, Shesty, and Strome for me, but honestly i could make a case for Panarin and Bitetto to be in this group as well. A lot of guys stepped up tonight. Very impressive win overall.

When that first line gets going again and they get Chytil back, they’re going to be that much better of a team.

Fox should be penciled in as one of the stars of the game every night.
Amazingly TRUE. In games where there are others deserving as well, I literally avoid choosing FOX, because of the redundancy of it all. Its pretty much a box that should automatically be checked off, or allow 4 votes. Sorry Adam, YOU are amazing.

Serious question. If he continues to play like this, improves his game (is that even possible?) stays relatively healthy AND plays like this for the next 12 years in a Rangers uni.......will that put him in the same sentence as
Brad Park
Ryan McDonough and even
Brian Leetch ?

That's a lot of heavy lifting, but man is he well on his way, or what?

Kakko was the best player on the ice for the Rangers. The way he played, oozing confidence, it seems like he was free of the shackles that held him back before.

He played his own game, and was responsible for several quick transitions, 2 of which resulting in goals. I hope he can build on this. Crazy what happens when you stick to a line for more than a game, huh?

Kakko was able to play his game because the things Quinn has been teaching him allowed him to. He was responsible for several quick transitions because his positioning and decisions were the right ones. That’s the result of coaching and development.

IDK about best game but Kakko looked a lot like he has all season to me, just with consistent shifts on a top-6 line and PP2. He was very good; best Ranger on the ice though was definitely Shesterkin or Trouba IMO.

I don't like Strome but have to give credit where it's due. He's turned a corner and been much more effective. Laf is getting the Howden treatment that Kakko got last year.

Last year I ID'd that a big part of our season turning around wasn't just Igor, but that the addition of DiGuiseppe did a lot to stabalize our top nine, insulate Kakko and Chytil, and get us going from line 1 to 4. I know it could fade easily, but he's been a revelation this year. Not all-star level or anything but a really honest, quick, and disruptive winger--very much a Fast-lite. He's brought it since his first game this season and feel he deserves some love for what so far has been great play every game.

Also, I feel like the Ruff to Martin adjustment has clearly changed things about this defense. Why was Ruff here so long to begin with?

Quinn is clearly getting through to Kakko, as he has with all of the young players. He seems to push the right buttons with these kids.

As frustrating as the no goals because of those ridiculous offside reviews are, I can only imagine how frustrating it must be for the players when they lose the goal, because "sorry, it was an offside by an inch 50 seconds ago when you entered the zone. We had to watch it in extreme slow motion 5 times to see it."

Why is the ability to challenge a fricking offside call even a possibility? I can understand goaltending interference and such, but offside?! What were they thinking? It doesn't make the game better in the slightest and if an offside is so close that a linesman misses it, what's the point? Less goals?

I think the skill guys are starting to play well except for Mika. Panarin is 4th in league in scoring, Strome has 4 goals in last 4 games, Kreider, Buch, and Kakko have looked good also lately. Laf is still a 19yo rookie but will eventually find his game. The only guy who we really need to play better and is still lost is Mika.
If Mika gets going we will win a lot of games. The others are starting to play well

I think the point was that it wasn't a goal.
