Kakko was the best player on the ice for the Rangers. The way he played, oozing confidence, it seems like he was free of the shackles that held him back before.

He played his own game, and was responsible for several quick transitions, 2 of which resulting in goals. I hope he can build on this. Crazy what happens when you stick to a line for more than a game, huh?

Missed the game, yet to see highlights, heard that there was some pugilism post-siren. Who threw what at who?

Lemmy and the goalie started it.

Then Rooney dropped with Dillon to get back at him for trying to kneecap Kakko in the 3rd

Funny how the mood around here changes once we get an improvement from our top-6 and some stable goaltending

We easily should have 2, maybe even 3, more wins in the standings, but regardless, I'm happy to see this team finally coming together. Getting Chytil back will be a huge boost, but I like the balance of our lineup right now:

KZB is a tried and true first line. No further need to debate it, and it'll only get better once Mika gets back on track.

Panarin-Strome-Kakko was really effective tonight, and a lot of the changes Kakko has made in the last 4-5 games are really helping to drive that line. Kakko has been really good lately, and I'm glad people are starting to have a more favorable view of him. The worst player in the league nonsense was a ridiculous concept last year, and it took only 5 minutes of analysis to realize why.

Lafreniere-Howden-PDG has been hit or miss for me, but I've really liked PDG's game lately, and I wouldn't mind keeping him around beyond this year. Chytil obviously should slot back in here at 3C when healthy. Ideal scenario would be a Lafreniere-Chytil-Kravtsov sometime later this year, but for now it'll just be my fun line that I get a ton of mileage out of in NHL21

Lemieux-Rooney-Blackwell/Gauthier is an improvement on the 4th lines we've had in recent years. I think ideally you find a way to slot a guy like PDG down a line and form a solid checking line with some mix of PDG/Lemieux/Howden/Rooney/Blackwell/Gauthier. Depth is a good thing here, and I've liked a lot of those guys this season.

Keep starting Shesty.

Good post

Hopefully the week off will help the team out, especially dealing with the fact the they are missing Chytil.

Ride Shesty, it looks like he's getting better and better.

Igor made key saves when needed and the entire D was fantastic. Great all around game.
I think the 4th line has more goals than the 1st line though.
I made mention of this in the GDT. I am both impressed/happy and concerned/pissed that this team’s grinders very often look like their best forwards. PDG attempts and pulls off all kinds of very skillful puck handling moves at high speed in the O-zone. Things you’d expect to see from Kakko and Lafreniere.

I have zero issues whatsoever with what the bottom six guys bring to this team. They are hardworking and surprisingly skillful. Would be nice if the skill guys started to feed off of that.

Yeah I think that was his best game as a Ranger, he had a huge jump in his step, looked energized, and while he didn't get an assist on the first goal his puck pressure and starting/continuing the cycle is what allowed it to happen. Quinn gave him a lot of icetime and this is hopefully him taking the opportunity and running with it. Great game, loved what I saw from him tonight, just looked like a different player.

Rangers in general looked like they had good jump...despite the mediocre start that is something I'm liking about the team this year compared to last year. They just seem to want to play faster and more aggressive and while we can bag on Quinn for a lot of stuff I do think this is how he's been trying to get him to play and I think it will be a successful style for them as they get better at it. 3rd period kinda got away from them but a veteran team like the Caps with good offensive weapons will find a way to pressure hard when down in the 3rd.

Refs tried to give the game away with that embellishment penalty on Kakko. Also frustrating that they let teams like the Caps run other teams all night long and call ticky tacky crap instead of the charging calls they should be making on guys like Wilson. Love that Lindgren was up for battling through that and giving some back.

Didn't notice Hajek a ton which is probably good, he seemed more settled and smooth than he has in the past, wouldn't be surprised if his analytics aren't great though, feels like he got caught out there a few times through no real fault of his own.

Shesterkin was quite good but nitpicking I"d say he might be able to clean up some rebound work at times.

Anyways, real nice win in the end. If Zibanejad can get going then we might start seeing this team hit its stride. I liked that they had plenty of push back and competed hard against a Caps team you'd expect to be heavy and rough to play against. Again feel like that's something Quinn has been trying to get them to do.

Fun fact: the Capitals did absolutely nothing with Ryan Lindgren on the ice.

Because he’s our real shutdown defenseman. Lindgren - Fox will be our first pairing by the end of the season. I wonder who will take Trouba’s place next to Miller when (perhaps in a few years) the $8MM gorilla eventually waives his NTC.

I think the skill guys are starting to play well except for Mika. Panarin is 4th in league in scoring, Strome has 4 goals in last 4 games, Kreider, Buch, and Kakko have looked good also lately. Laf is still a 19yo rookie but will eventually find his game. The only guy who we really need to play better and is still lost is Mika.
