Weird that there was so little activity in the last hour across the league.

Seems like GMs saw the price being paid, the sellers then upped their expectations for deals, and beyond a couple deals people felt were absolutely necessary things went cold.

Need permission from the posters who were on their high horses - is it safe to crash out now?

In the grand scheme of things though, none of this ultimately really matters when Hughes is gone in another year or so.

Looks like we are done.

As Vector said, too bad we couldn’t capitalize on all this cap space. But doesn’t look like there were many third party broker deals this go round.

Hopefully we can have fruitful extension conversations with Boeser, Suter and Forbort.

I have a hard time concluding this is about anything at this point other than just simply revenue. The club is running well under the cap (ie. saving cash), while hoping they can scrap into the playoffs and get a few games of additional revenue. I have no clue why you'd proceed in this manner otherwise.

I think it opens up a real question of whether we'll be a cap team as the cap number starts rising. Especially if attendance starts declining with the rising ticket costs and lack of enthusiasm around the team.

This is my biggest criticism. Just sitting here with all this cap space. Maybe Aquilini is trying to save money and is planning on not spending to the cap.

cap space means nothing when everyone has cap space. it's only valuable when you can exploit others against the cap; it's not the year where everyone is. and it's going up.

Tsk, curtains down and we're done.

Well, I'll try to keep an open mind and let the puck do the talking. Whatever we did or didn't do, it's the result that will speak loudest.

Now we're left with the unenviable options of either letting Boeser walk, or handing him a blank cheque.

Consensus on Nikishin is that he is probably the best defenseman outside the NHL and will walk into the top-four next season. Scott Morrow is also a pretty good defense prospect. They have some assets coming there.

They also have tons of cap space and (now) draft capital they can convert in roster players. With Aho, Jarvis, Svechnikov, and now Stankoven, they have a relatively young forward core. Jackson Blake and Nadeua look like they should be NHL contributors. I don't see them dropping off soon.

They spent 4 seasons playing at a 110+ point pace but have had a ton of depth eroded in the last year and have fallen well off that this season.

They’re not in danger of falling out of the playoffs but their time as a top-5 team is closing off and turning two years of Necas into Stankoven is not a positive move for where that team is at.
