They could have had even greater chances at playoff revenue if they added a few pieces around the edges with their boatload of cap space, though. They have the futures to do it as well.
But that would mean they would have to trade something and I hear that is completely unrealistic.

This is my biggest criticism. Just sitting here with all this cap space. Maybe Aquilini is trying to save money and is planning on not spending to the cap.
I suspect with the big cap jumps, Aqua will no longer have the club as a cap team. He's already been cheaping out elsewhere, probably doesn't want to add ~$20M in salaries over the next few years.

Honestly I don't really care to much with the Canucks standing pat. In all honesty after following this team for a decade I'm starting to lose interest watching this circus year in and out. I really just don't care anymore.

There's zero long-term vision or any objective to win a cup.

During the Benning years, the objective was to make the playoffs no matter how terrible the squad was.

Now the objective is to keep Quinn Hughes which can in turn bring us the playoffs, but this squad is in terrible shape up front.

I cannot buy into watching this product knowing we are going to be fodder for other teams.

Everyone here says Petey sucks and is too far gone. Why would that be good for Carolina?

JT is a malcontent.

It's hilarious seeing everyone shit on EP on one hand saying he sucks, he's an albatross on one hand and then turn around and expect the Hurricanes to give up a massive package - which is it? He can't have that type of value if what half the morons in here post is true

I can't defend the steam any longer Buffalo West
Canucks are a f***ing joke. Anyone okay for going for 8th place and not getting any value for expiring contracts have no clue how proper teams run. f*** ownership
Can't blame ownership. Rutherford and Alvin are their own men

i don't really care they kept boeser -- i never believed they'd move him anyways -- but they better not extend him and they should have pursued a top 6 winger even if it was a rental. this team could still very easily miss the playoffs and be left with nothing to show. it's also a terrible draft year so having all their picks doesn't really mean anything to me either

What a worthless flame bait post from the king of worthless flame bait posts.

Moving on.

That wasn’t a ‘flame bait post’ and you’re moving on because you know I’m right.

Teams in our position do not do big deadline sell-offs. It doesn’t happen. None of the teams around us in the standings are doing it either.

when you change a third of the roster before the deadline it does make sense that the deadline is quiet LOL.... I'm ok with Brock staying but not at 6x$8m

How many players have the other teams in the West playoff chase traded?

Out of Vancouver/Calgary/St.Louis/Utah we’re literally the biggest seller right now by virtue of the Soucy move.

Aquilini is a douchebag but our current decision making would be happening with basically any owner. It continually boggles my mind that video-game playing fans don’t understand this shit.
There is a difference between what typically occurs, and what organizations typically do (i.e., they are typically short term oriented) and what long terms fans would like (i.e., many prefer a longer term outlook).

And I think fans shouldn't be surprised by the lack of activity. I posted a bunch of times over the last two days predicting that they wouldn't be sellers like everyone hoped because they care more about squeaking into the playoffs with almost no chance of going anywhere.

But some fans and media calling this a "failure" is dumb in the sense that it implies that management was trying to sell and failed to do it. But the reality is, they never intended this. Their intention was always to compete short term at the expense of the future.

And fans are 100% entitled to not like that. I know that you would prefer the team went for it every year they reasonably could, as I think you have said this a number of time, but I'd much prefer a longer term outlook that would be more likely to result in an elite team over a long period of time.

And the organization knows that their short term interests are disliked by the fans. That's why they leak information about them trying to trade Boeser, or how they want to trade Suter, but they will now come out and say they are "self rentals" and that they couldn't get enough value for their UFAs or didn't like the options available, etc. But the reality is they never actually wanted to trade this players.

Looks like cap space really doesn't matter.

Well it matters considering operating like this they will make more revenue per game since payroll is down, and they are hoping to bank some playoff gate. If they miss the playoffs, at least they bank the extra revenue by having a payroll well below the cap.

Yep.

Canucks are done… and so are the fans.

Monumental disaster.

This franchise is cursed. Not even sure changing coaches/management/owner/players would do anything.

Maybe get into another sport? What's good to watch these days.
