the Benning comments are remarkable here, I guess this is how a guy like Trump gets elected twice - people really do have short memories, to me they're just trolls but you do you
Drafted demko Petey Hughes and traded for Miller.for f***s sake, stop
Wouldn’t be shocked if Bruins are competing before us again
I suspect with the big cap jumps, Aqua will no longer have the club as a cap team. He's already been cheaping out elsewhere, probably doesn't want to add ~$20M in salaries over the next few years.
just stop.Draf
Drafted demko Petey Hughes and traded for Miller.
He left this team with
Horvat gone
Petey broken
JT traded
Hughes
Demko broken
Boeser soon to walk for nothing
There is a difference between what typically occurs, and what organizations typically do (i.e., they are typically short term oriented) and what long terms fans would like (i.e., many prefer a longer term outlook).
And I think fans shouldn't be surprised by the lack of activity. I posted a bunch of times over the last two days predicting that they wouldn't be sellers like everyone hoped because they care more about squeaking into the playoffs with almost no chance of going anywhere.
But some fans and media calling this a "failure" is dumb in the sense that it implies that management was trying to sell and failed to do it. But the reality is, they never intended this. Their intention was always to compete short term at the expense of the future.
And fans are 100% entitled to not like that. I know that you would prefer the team went for it every year they reasonably could, as I think you have said this a number of time, but I'd much prefer a longer term outlook that would be more likely to result in an elite team over a long period of time.
And the organization knows that their short term interests are disliked by the fans. That's why they leak information about them trying to trade Boeser, or how they want to trade Suter, but they will now come out and say they are "self rentals" and that they couldn't get enough value for their UFAs or didn't like the options available, etc. But the reality is they never actually wanted to trade this players.
I think it can't be omitted that it isn't just ownership, its absolutely management too. They are also aligned on competing in the short term at the expense of the longer term. They speak the same language that Benning did. Looking for "hockey trades" where you are targeting good mid twenties players. LOL, as if basically everyone in the league isn't targeting these players.I have a hard time concluding this is about anything at this point other than just simply revenue. The club is running well under the cap (ie. saving cash), while hoping they can scrap into the playoffs and get a few games of additional revenue. I have no clue why you'd proceed in this manner otherwise.
I think it opens up a real question of whether we'll be a cap team as the cap number starts rising. Especially if attendance starts declining with the rising ticket costs and lack of enthusiasm around the team.
I've been the #1 person blowing the horn of, "the cap won't automatically go up" given economic uncertainty, new potential pandemics, etc.The Yotes arent a drain anymore for the league, but It wouldnt surprise me if the cap projections arent going to be what they said. Theres lots of things like a weak Canadian dollar and the circus below us that could throw a wrench in finances
Our owner needs to sign off on the bigger trades that can alter the club. Rumour this morning on 650 was he mixed a BB6 trade to Florida.
So is ownership to blame for bennings "shortcomings" then? Our owner needs to sign off on the bigger trades that can alter the club. Rumour this morning on 650 was he mixed a BB6 trade to Florida.
Truth hurts man. Still 5 more years left in this stupid decade.just stop.
Benning was responsible for a decade of stupidity
i am guessing they want to find long term upgrades and not short term rentals this TDL which is the right move.I'm not sure how else to read this, maybe someone can come up with a better theory ... but at this point it looks like they just set out to operate under the minimum roster cap number they could for the remainder of the season (while not totally tanking borderline playoff chances) in a bid to maximize gate revenue.
Noo no no.Allvin is looking more and more like a Benning clone. Bad trades and bad asset management characterized Benning's regime and I don't see a lot of daylight between him and Allvin
We and the Canucks are losers. Everybody involved with this organization is a loser.
Bunch of idiots. We are totally going to be underwhelmed today as well. Be prepared
Deserve this shit team.
i think people misread the Soucy trade and took that as a sign we are sellers.Absolutely.
The only way Boeser was getting traded was if they could have turned him into a younger top-6 winger like a Lafreniere or a Stankoven or something.
If that wasn’t there, he was never, ever being dumped for picks for the sake of asset management while the team was sitting in a playoff spot.
Reading page after page of people acting like this is 2016 and they didn’t trade Hamhuis when they were in 28th place is mind-numbing, and the lack of understanding is actually mind blowing.
Did not think of this.I suspect with the big cap jumps, Aqua will no longer have the club as a cap team. He's already been cheaping out elsewhere, probably doesn't want to add ~$20M in salaries over the next few years.
