A long term plan wont be in the cards with this ownership. Anyone who expects that will be dissapointed. It’s just a total fundamental failure to understand how sports works.
People set up an expectation for something that was never going to happen and are now having a tantrum when it predictably isn’t happening.
They have a couple high quality young defensemen in the system, a bunch of draft picks and a reasonable cap situation going forward. Not really seeing a big issue here.Their entire D save Chatfield is over 30 and they’re already having their worst year since before COVID after losing a bunch of guys last year and not really replacing them.
They aren’t Nashville but they’ve been a top-5 ish team for the last 5 years and that’s closing off for them very quickly.
Apparently boeser team working on a contract now.

They can't.Tough look. I have no idea how they're gonna fix this team in the off-season.

We'll then they really need to consider trading Hughes. No way in hell he resigns here. They can't.
Too many teams with tons of money and limited good options.
Mgmt had their chance during this deadline and they f***ed up royally.
I mean it wasnt much of a chance.They can't.

If the prime objective is to re-sign Hughes then you have no alternative but to have a competitive squad. Boeser would have probably been the most sought after forward in UFA (assuming Marner re-signs).I didn't come into today with high expectations of trading Boeser, but a long-term extension is not something I wanted to see.
Really hope this isn't the case.
Yeah but they kept their own rentals and might grab some playoff revenue.Thing is, this is not really a short term plan either. They have not improved the team in a bid to make the playoffs, and in fact sold off a veteran. What type of plan is sitting with a boatload of cap space and the same mediocre fringe playoff roster for the remainder of the season?
Consensus on Nikishin is that he is probably the best defenseman outside the NHL and will walk into the top-four next season. Scott Morrow is also a pretty good defense prospect. They have some assets coming there.Their entire D save Chatfield is over 30 and they’re already having their worst year since before COVID after losing a bunch of guys last year and not really replacing them.

Trouble is, it seems like there are a ton of teams with a lot of cap space to spare, the value of cap space will likely be deflated at this point.I won't be upset if they don't trade Boeser or Sute but quite disappointed if they can't find a way to utilize their capspace.
No trade protection with a management team who have a tendency to want to trade there newly signed player after only a year, No chance.I am ok with this. Hopefully trade protection is minimal
