cody glass fetches a 3rd. last time he was traded nashville paid a 3rd to unload him. at that rate of improvement could he overhaul ep40 in a tortoise and hare trade value derby in a couple of years?

They've taken huge swings two years in a row, I think they're definitely "going for it," they just don't seem ready to fully commit if it means losing any amount of value.

I'm not saying it's disaster trade, I'm saying it's a clear step backwards for their goal to compete this year.

Oh they're definitely going for it, but when I say on the clock I mean their window is not closing anytime soon - trading for Stankoven just ensures it stays open (And you now have ammo for if another star were to become available, except this time hopefully with some term for their sake)

How are they late in their window lmao Brent Burns is 39, sure, but have you seen the prospects they got ready to come in? They're going to be just fine, they're not even remotely on the clock

Agreed. Their window is very much open.

Jarvis 23
Stankoven 23
Aho 27
Svechnikov 24
Blake 21
Kotkaniemi 24
Roslovic 27

They have top prospects coming in

Morrow 22
Nikishin 23 (top 3 prospect not in nhl)
Nadeau 19

In fact, they are only really going to lose

Burns
Staal

and Orlov in the next 2-3 years.

All can be replaced with all of the draft picks they have in the next 3 years.

Going to laugh when Allvin comes out and says blah blah buyers market blah blah stay competitive and keep their free agents. Hopefully I’m sorely wrong.

That’s a lot of middling/soft/small players.

So many armchair GMs who refuse to acknowledge the reality that players are human beings who care about winning and that playoff revenue matters if you want to keep being a cap team.

Just a bunch of whining of how we possibly could do nothing and refusing to acknowledge the above realities.

People have played EA sports games more than they’ve worked for real companies with real-life people.
I don’t really buy the playoff revenue argument. Functionally there’s no difference between selling and refusing to buy - you’re just trading an actual cost for an opportunity cost. It’s not like the team as currently constructed is at some magical level of competitiveness such that they are maximizing their odds of making it.

The psychology piece, yeah I get that.

necas to stankoven isn't a gigantic drop off and they have 2 firsts to use to add still. let's see what they do

They've postured themselves to trade Boeser, and couldn't get it done. Now they're backed into a corner.

Well, at least Metey trade was done early and improved our defense. But our forward depth has not been addressed. Going into playoffs, if we even make it, with this line up we're gonna get slaughtered without mercy.
