People getting so defensive about "hockey culture" getting called out need to get a grip. Not one person using that term has ever suggested the same issues don't exist in society more largely or in other sports. The term is being used because SHOCK! we're talking about the sport of hockey. And the culture of it, especially in Canada, does have specific issues to it - like players being treated like gods in small towns, with behaviour like underage drinking, bullying, hazing, etc being seen as a "boys will be boys".
Look, I get it. Sports, like TV, movies, music etc, is supposed to be escapism. Stories like this are body blows to how we try and enjoy these escapes, but pretending something isn't there won't make it go away.
