I was gonna say, sounds more like a Canada issue than anything else.
If anything there's more of a willingness to uncover these issues in Canada. These issues aren't limited to one sport or country.

If you think this is limited to Canada.. oh boy.I was gonna say, sounds more like a Canada issue than anything else.
This is beyond naive. American campuses are rife with rape and sexual assault. I can't speak for Northern Europe, I have no exposure to the sport culture over there. Something tells me it's not squeaky clean, either.I was gonna say, sounds more like a Canada issue than anything else.

Get a grip?Get a grip.
Sexual assault victims typically have a very hard time going forward. Attitudes seem to be changing and more victims finally have the courage to go public now. Just because someone didn't have the gusto to go forward until now, doesn't mean it didn't happen.
Also, this could have been something that was complained about but was swept under the rug or possibly covered up by hockey Canada.
Edit: The victims in these assaults are often teenage girls (as young as 14). Doesn't surprise me at all that many would wait until they are in their 20s to come forward.
Ewwww what a bunch of disgusting pigs. Just repugnant.Quote from Jordin Tootoo's biographical book, All The Way: My Life on Ice with respect to the 2003 World Juniors
**A quote does not imply guilt.**
> The other teams had some future stars, too, including a seventeen-year-old playing for Russia who no one had ever heard of before named Alexander Ovechkin.
> But frick, we were just kids back then. The shit that we did. . . . We were horny young men. We were in Halifax and we had every goddamned girl hitting on us. What are you going to do? *Let's start slaying these broads.* And it wasn't just one-on one action. A few of the guys would get a couple of girls after practice and head into one of the rooms. Enough said.
> We went undefeated through the preliminary round and then beat the Americans 3-2 in the semifinals. The Russians were undefeated as well when we met them in the finals. Of course, Canada versus Russia has been the big hockey rivalry going all the way back to 1972. It felt like the whole country was watching us.
This quote by Jordin Tootoo is specifically referring to THAT team at THAT competition.
Taken from Reddit.
If you think this is limited to Canada.. oh boy.
Allegations against Kristian Huselies and Andreas Lilja come to mind, as well as Slava Voynov.
Get a grip?
The timing is of interest due to the status another case. Instead of going all gung-ho any time a rumor comes out, try thinking critically.
As much as this could lead to something horrific, this could be something HC is using to put out there full of holes to discredit the other case that very may be legitimate. We don’t know yet.
I’ll never get the point of being intentionally obtuse and in attack mode 24/7.
In other words, maybe a bunch of things? It seems to be the most common defence for people who don't believe victims to attack others as being less capable of thinking critically.
Y'all really think highly of yourselves, don't you?
19 years doesn't matter. Maybe the woman has been living a tortured life because she was assaulted, and she said "f*** it, you ruined my prospects in life, you owe me". Or maybe she wants to protect other women out there now that she knows she's not alone.

"Mr. Westhead informed Hockey Canada he has spoken to multiple witnesses who provided him with explicit descriptions of an assault,
The player told the camera operator that viewers were about to see "a f---ing lamb roast,” the three sources said. After the hallway interview, the camera was then carried into a room with a pool table, the source said.
The video shows roughly a half-dozen players taking turns having sex with a woman who was non-responsive and lying face up on the pool table, the source said.
Imagine people thinking it's wrong that abuse victims are going public, because they think it took them too long. One person coming forward often gives another victim the courage to do so themselves.
Obviously, innocent until proven guilty, but we've got multiple witnesses confirming the account of assault. It also may not even be the victim coming forward here:
Suggests it was witnesses racked by guilt about not reporting it early who are now coming forward. Probably inspired by people coming forward in the other allegation.
An analogy is the Indian residential school system. A NY Times article I read with rife with Canadian criticisms (rightfully so), but the US had an identical system, with the same systematic abuses, which is unknown to most Americans. If anything there's more of a willingness to uncover these issues in Canada. Breaking News: turns out hockey culture is pretty toxic
It's not, but Canada seems to be the biggest (by large) culprit of hockey related sexual assaults. To say it's a hockey culture problem is ridiculous, it happens in all sports. If you think this is limited to Canada.. oh boy.
Allegations against Kristian Huselies and Andreas Lilja come to mind, as well as Slava Voynov.
Original poster was referring to hockey culture and sexual assault, what happens in other schools/sports is irrelevant to my comment. This is beyond naive. American campuses are rife with rape and sexual assault. I can't speak for Northern Europe, I have no exposure to the sport culture over there. Something tells me it's not squeaky clean, either.
Not when it comes to hockey it seems. As I said above, we're talking about hockey related sexual assault. Here's why sexual assaults are less of a problem in Canada
There are fewer violent crimes in Canada in general, professor Cecilia Benoit said.www.usatoday.com
Still far better here than in the US, just like in pretty much every other measurable way. Progress is still needed, but we are a relative leader.
