Quote from Jordin Tootoo's biographical book, All The Way: My Life on Ice with respect to the 2003 World Juniors

**A quote does not imply guilt.**

> The other teams had some future stars, too, including a seventeen-year-old playing for Russia who no one had ever heard of before named Alexander Ovechkin.

> But frick, we were just kids back then. The shit that we did. . . . We were horny young men. We were in Halifax and we had every goddamned girl hitting on us. What are you going to do? *Let's start slaying these broads.* And it wasn't just one-on one action. A few of the guys would get a couple of girls after practice and head into one of the rooms. Enough said.

> We went undefeated through the preliminary round and then beat the Americans 3-2 in the semifinals. The Russians were undefeated as well when we met them in the finals. Of course, Canada versus Russia has been the big hockey rivalry going all the way back to 1972. It felt like the whole country was watching us.

This quote by Jordin Tootoo is specifically referring to THAT team at THAT competition.

People are coming out for money. This is getting ridiculous. Should be a statue of limitations on reporting a crime.
No there shouldn't. If 10 women are raped, and the first 9 sued their attackers why is the 10th woman not allowed to get her justice ? There should be zero tolerance for shit like this, I don't wanna be reading news articles of women being sexually abused, especially by Canadian hockey players. Instead of getting mad at the women reporting their abuse, i'm pissed the f*** off at the boys/men/hockey canada for their disgusting crimes and attempts to cover it up. I hope any person who's gone through something like that can find the courage to speak up about it. f*** hockey at this point, we're talking about rapists, idc what they do for a living or as a hobby.

HF poster: Why didn't they report this when it happened?

Also HF poster without irony: I bet she is just doing it for money!

If someone really close to you came and said that she was raped/gang raped 10 years ago would you say same thing to her?
Depends, does it impact a sport/team/player he cares about or force him to spend time self-reflecting on what allowed it to happen and how he might contribute to that behaviour?

People should really consider the age of the victims here when considering to make a big deal about delays in reporting. The perpetrators themselves are aged 16-20. The victims are likely teenagers, possibly still in high school. High school is brutal for anyone with a bad reputation. Imagine walking through high school halls with everyone knowing you've had sex with multiple partners at once. High school kids aren't going to be overly sympathetic about "details" like consent.

If they were in High School, would that mean they were underage?

The player told the camera operator that viewers were about to see "a f---ing lamb roast,” the three sources said. After the hallway interview, the camera was then carried into a room with a pool table, the source said.

The video shows roughly a half-dozen players taking turns having sex with a woman who was non-responsive and lying face up on the pool table, the source said.

Jesus that's disgusting and hard even to read about.

Imagine people thinking it's wrong that abuse victims are going public, because they think it took them too long.

That's the 2nd time today I've read someone complain about it being long overdue, as if that somehow makes the rape less rapey.

In this case it wasn't even the victim coming forward. 3 players, who'd seen a video of 6 other players having sex with an unconscious woman. Unless these 3 guys are just out to destroy their 6 teammates (jealousy?), it's almost certainly a case of these players feeling inspired/guilty as a result of the allegations against the other WJC team.

Ewwww what a bunch of disgusting pigs. Just repugnant.
Wut? If they are doing it with willing women, it's totally fine.

It's if they were doing it with unwilling women where it becomes an issue. Does anyone have the report for what allegedly happened in 2003?

Yeah. I remember in my high school a girl was gang raped and a bunch of people made fun of her. She went to home school not soon after. I see her around town sometimes and I’m always reminded of the bullying of her. She was a sweet girl too.

Disgusting. I wish I could say I'm not surprised, but I am. I wanted to believe that my country had a hockey program that I could be proud of. It's looking more and more like there has been something very rotten at it's core going on behind the scenes for a very long time. I wouldn't be surprised if this goes a lot deeper than a cpl of years. Not feeling very good about any of this.

Normally I'd try to be pragmatic/Cautious with an accusation following shortly after a similar one if it's for older as copycat/fake accusations do occurr and im in the wait for more info group.

But Nater (The MPP) involved is a smart guy with a good understanding of the Canadian legal system and worked under correctional services Canada. If he thinks the accusation is legitimate based on what he has seen that should certainly put some credence to it.

Most of the good hockey players were complete assholes when I played, not surprised that shit keeps getting revealed about hockey culture.
If you’re from a small town, your local sports team is basically treated like gods and this leads to things like this.

I’ve never understood why we need to deify athletes

copy cat complaint.
You do realize its not even the victim reporting it? It's interesting that your first thought was this was a money grab. Says a lot about you as a person. I have nothing to say to you that won't get me infracted but I hope to god you take a second to self reflect on why you immediately jumped to the conclusion you did

People who defend Rape culture are usually a part of Rape culture. I just found out last week that my kid's former hockey coach was caught on tape soliciting sex from a 16 year old boy. Coach is now in his 30's. I'm the only poster to have left a comment. People don't want to talk about sexual assault, yet send their kids off to live in strangers' homes. It's f*c*d up!!
