How did Pokulok look?

Not good. By the end of the game they were pairing him and Stephenson on D and sending them out every second shift. Neither one did well, but I'd have to give Stephenson the edge.

TSN pissed me off at some point: they showed Sutter -- caption "B. Sutter, Canada head coach". They showed the assistent -- caption. They showed the Russian coach Sergey Mikhalev - no caption. Is it hard to look up his name??

Not sure, but I know the nationality of all those elbows were Russian. Quit your whining. You can't run around throwing elbows to the head of everything that moves and not expect penalties. The Russians were chippy and undisciplined and if they keep it up during the tournament, they will get pounded.

Did you even see the game? I didn't think so.
Yep,the Russian side was very undisiplined last night and it cost them big time.If this guy thinks he'll get it easier with Euro refs and Russia plays again like they did last night he's in for a big surprise.they'll get even more calls against them.Last night they were lucky it was Canadian refs or it'd have been worse.

Maybe because 99.0% of their audience could care less who it is.
I'm sure Russian TV would have it though.

It sounded like that guy was warming up his excuses for the tournament. You know you can't be caught in a loss without someone to blame.

Well not before some Leaf homer proclaiming Pogge to be god on the prospects board as we (and that's a general 'we', every hab fan regardless of degree of homerism is an 'us') have done with Latendresse.

So what your saying is you expect the Latendresse is overrated threads to break out soon to?

This message board, and people in general tend to deal in extremes. Before the tournament many people wrote Pogge off as a product of his defense, stating that he was at best an average goalie.

Likewise, if he continues to shine in this tournament, he'll become the next Lehtinen. As per usual the truth is probably somewhere in the middle, but hey, I'm all up for hyping a Leaf prospect, particularly a friggen goalie :)

It was good to see the Canadian team slap around the Russians last night. They've worked hard, and they needed a little bit of a confidence boost.

Hopefully Sutter reigns it in, however.

This game was a dead heat for the first half of the game, and the Russians were missing their best player. It was only after it got to be 3-1 did the Russians just shut down, and then the Canadians were able to run it up.

I would not be particularly confident in this team's ability to beat the Russians again, simply because if I had to bet whether the real Russian team was more like the first half than the second half, I'd take the first team.

Then again, it's always better to be on the side of an 8-1 beating than on the embarassing side.

The Russian squad is talented, but you have to wonder about the team spirit of a national team that gives up after getting down a few goals.

Yep,that is indeed what it sounded like. The Russians were way too undisiplined last night,it's great to see them take the body and show they won't be intimidated but they went overboard and at this event you'll get whistled for gratuitous elbows to the head alll game. They have to tuck it in or they'll spend this whole tournament in the penalty box. They did a bad job of focusing their physical play last night.Their coach will have to talk to them about it or there will be problems for that team.

Yeah, that's what it is.
Good one, start the whining early.
One would think if one was going to whine, one would whine about ones team getting pounded & being quitters.
But I guess that wouldnt be whining about something, anything Canadian ,so you cant, right?

Sounds like the game here last year when the USA played and beat them. But then when it came to the big game they totally worked us.

They just got pounded 8-1 (albeit in a pre-tourny game). What would you want the posters to say? Especially when a large majority of the posters are Canadian. Help us out here.

I'm sure when we all watch russian television that they show the names of our water boys. I would consider it mannerless that russian television wouldn't even provide broadcasting for russian hockey fans.

Its mannerless that a canadian tv station provides hockey coverage to an exhibition game involving russia to a russian hockey fan... now thats mannerless...whatever mannerless means...

Even though it was an exhibition game I think it was an important game for Canada. Russia is one of the favorites and Canada played very well against them. The Russians quit after it was 4-1 but Canada did not let up. Canada's power play looked much better.

Pogge played great. He looks confident in net and plays the puck extremely well. He had no chance on the only goal he let in.

Cogliano played well again. I'd put him with Latendresse. Cogliano is a great passer and Latendresse has a great shot and can put the puck in the net.

I thought Enver Lisin played very well for the Russians. He showed a lot of skill and great speed.

How much respect do russians deserve? they haven't won anything in ages. They're hockey federation is a joke; there's no pride in playing for their country with a lot of players opting out. They just got spanked by Canada. They got spanked by canada in the Challenge Series...

What has russia done to get respect? Except have a russian hockey fan complain that tsn won't show some no name coaches name. They would probably be offended if his name wasn't shown in russian. Russians will use any excuse to be upset...

I can't believe you are whining about them not showing the Russians coach. You should be thankful that TSN showed an exhibiton game on tv. Moreover, like the one guy said 99% of TSN's audience doesn't care about the Russians caoch.

Do you really have to note every ****ing spelling mistake. Lehtonen, Lehtinen, not a big difference.
