I don't care about McGuire. He calls everyone "spectacular" and "special". So I can't take him seriously.

I actually watched the game, and noticed that Pogge is an above average goaltending prospect for a franchise that SUCKS at drafting.

I give it 2 weeks to a month until the Pogges overrated threads appear, not that I will agree with that or anything, it's just predictable hockeys future.

Jee, a predict a quaterfinal exit for our team.. Every line is terrible. ALthough, one should admit that goals 5,6 and 8 were lucky. The last minute was a showcase: Pogge save our breakaway, Khudobin lets one in of our defender.... :shakehead

So true, so true.

I still can't get over that the Leafs are the ones who own Pogge... FINALLY.

Was at the game tonight, and Pogge was very impressive. Stopped 2 or 3 breakaways. Very deserving of the player of the game for the Canadians. I admit, I have never seen him play before, but I'm sold on him. Plays a very sound, positional game. It was nice to have the Kamloops fans start a Pogge chant after that last breakaway stop, with there very own Dubnyk sitting on the bench. Very classy.
I wish there were more Canadian games being played here. Damn you Vancouver......damn you!!!!

Khudobin was questionable at best, but I would select anyone who posted here to play over that 2nd goalie. Congratulations to Canada, even our 1 goal was a lucky bounce off a defencemen, you guys handed our asses to us.

Well not before some Leaf homer proclaiming Pogge to be god on the prospects board as we (and that's a general 'we', every hab fan regardless of degree of homerism is an 'us') have done with Latendresse.

Team Russia played a great first period and went down after some stupid penalities but you can see this team has alot of potential and surely didnt play at their best..

I hope we avoid them until the final.

Haven't seen or heard what kept Bolland out of the game. Am curious if they said if it was just to give him more time to heal or if there is a knew more serious injury that may cause him to miss the tournament?

From the Vancouver Sun:

London Knights winger David Bolland did not practice Wednesday and will not play tonight. Bolland suffered a hip injury in a practice earlier this week. Team Canada head coach Brent Sutter described keeping Bolland off the ice as a precautionary move. Bolland played against the Czechs, but felt some soreness after the game.

"We're going to give him a few days," said Sutter. "He'll be allright."

Wow the russians have a lot of flash though. I mean the canadians play a gritty gritty game, but you can see a lot of talent on the russians side. They got a couple of unlucky bounces, and some suspect goaltending from Kasutin I think his name is. I would definitely be worried if canada plays russia in the finals.

I think they were all Canadian but come tournament time there will be a pool of international referees so be prepared.....

So that explains why there were so many bad penalties to Russia called. Thank God Canadian refs aren't allowed to judge Canada's games in the real tournament.

On the olympics....well I'm scared already. Are refs going to decide that tournament on Canada's favor like Don Koharski decided the 1987 Canada Cup on Canada's favor?

ya wait til russia actually plays like they want too and with malkin in the line-up.

nice to see a russian drop the gloves too

Seems you have a bias againt NA referees to European ones, take your pick chum. Same could be said against Euro refs in Europe against NA teams. Thank god your refs aren't allowed to ref the 'real' game of the year, otherwise it would be a crapfest of penalties.

Its not the same. Why would a Swedish ref have bias for Russia if they play against Canada? Or why would a Finnish ref have bias for Czech Republic if the Czechs play Canada?

In most sports its a written rule that a referee should not judge a game where his own team is playing. That goes for soccer, basketball and even hockey in the IIHF tournaments (olympics being an exception). Olympic hockey and World Cup of hockey are exceptions where you have Canadian refs calling Canada's games. I've seen enough of that. They have not been inpartial. I already mentioned the 1987 Canada Cup, but the World Cup semifinal between Canada and Czechs was another example where the Canadian ref had a little too much bias for his own team.

I think its not right to have a Canadian ref call Canada's games in important tournaments. Tell me, how would you feel if a Russian referee judges an olympic final between Russia and Canada? Would that be right?

Peter25 said:
Who was the referee in this game and what was his nationality?

Not sure, but I know the nationality of all those elbows were Russian. Quit your whining. You can't run around throwing elbows to the head of everything that moves and not expect penalties. The Russians were chippy and undisciplined and if they keep it up during the tournament, they will get pounded.

Did you even see the game? I didn't think so.

The Russian defence and goaltending were terrible.

To be fair, it was their first game on the small ice. D-men in Europe are used to having more time to make decisions. It was probably the first time a lot of those guys have ever been pressured like that.
It'll take time to get used to.

But, jesus, their goalies suck.
