I dunno... its an international event.
Even the official website covers Canada's games in depth with minute-by-minute updates of goals + penalties, followed by a summary immediately after the game was finnished.

It took a day or two on the other hand for the score of the USA-Sweden and Latvia-Finland game to be posted. I mean I know you're in Canada, but you're running an international tournamnet and have to show some degree of neutrality.

I like how last year's World Juniors were covered, not so much by TSN, but by the actual organizers in the USA.

I'm not that surprised that the exhibition games aren't getting that much coverage for the other nations on Hockey Canada's website, but why is the IIHF only providing Canadian summaries on their site. I thought the IIHF was more impartial then that. Check it out ... http://212.23.235.116/IIHF_Core/jsp/content/web_output/index.jsp?compId=82&ftype=pdf

The IIHF isn't putting on the tournament... it's just the regulating body. Hockey Canada in conjunction with the Vancouver organizing commitee is responsible for the execution of the tournament, in following the IIHF's rules and regulations.

The reason Canada always seems to get the most attention, is because Canada is the one country that really embraces the tournament. It's really not such a big deal in Europe and the States. Having said that... a well organized tournament would provide comprehensive stats and facts about all the participating teams.

As an aside... it's really funny to watch some Canadian fans thinking that the exhibition game against Russia meant ANYTHING! Anyone who knows this tournament knows that Team Russia is a very talented, proud team who will be immeasurably better once the games mean something. I just hope the Team Canada Players don't get to high on themselves or we won't even medal. I'm sure Sutter will see to that!

GO CANADA GO!!!

Ages being 3 years since their little run of gold medals was over?
5 players opted out of the Olympics: 3 of them citing injuries, 1 old age + retirement. Only 1, maybe 2 at most would have made the team anyways. I dont think anyone opted out of the World Jrs.

You spanked Russia in an exhibition game. You spanked Russia's Junior C team in the Canada-Russia Challenge Series. Congratulations. This certainly gives you the right of way to badmouth and make generalizations about all Russians.

Canada is the number 1 ranked country in mens, women's and junior hockey. Where is russian mens, womens and junior hockey ranked?

The IIHF is the governing body for the tournament and generally they keep stats for every game, including the garbage relegation round. I don't actually remember seeing exhibition games hosted on their site before but it is a little odd that they only have the stats up for the Canadian games.

As for taking what happened in the last game against the Russians as a serious evaluation of what they will play like in the tournament, that is naive. The Russians are notorious for playing half assed until the actual round robin begins. They usually heat up as the tournament progresses, just like Canada does. Canada shouldn't expect the same result if we face them again.

That being said, it was a fantastic momentum builder for a young Canadian squad that is not one of the favorites this year. Confidence is a big thing for a young team. I hope they carry this play into the tournament when games matter.

And exactly what is that supposed to mean? The Sens are ranked higher than the Flyers on most, if not all, website power rankings, yet they lost last night. Rankings mean ****. It's what happens on the ice that counts. Results mean everything, rankings mean nothing.
I am Canadian through and through, but until they have that gold medal around there necks, they have as much chance as anybody to win it all.

Canada and Russia have been the 2 best hockey nations for most of the time that the sport has been played. Why do you feel a need to kick them when they are down? Canada took a hit for a period after Nagano. Russia is going through a little of the same thing. Unfortunately for them, they have political issues as well that sometimes prevents them from icing their best squads at the men's level. All Russia really needs to rekindle their dominant glory years is to start developing strong goaltenders. That is an area that has always seemed to be their weak spot. Where is their next Tretiak or Khabibulin?

As for women's hockey, I think it is great that Canada has embraced our women's team, but not all nations have programs for this. I suspect that the Russian sport federation doesn't put a lot of money into their women's hockey program.

Insecurity.

Is the tournament going to be played on small ice, is it an actual IIHF rule to have big ice like in the Olympics?

I'm almost positive it's on small ice. Big time advantage for the North Americans. Although it looks like Sweden picked a team well prepared for the NA style.

The last two games the Canadians and Russians have played in WJC action have resulted in a 6-1 Canadian win and a 8-1 Canadian win, what's to be insecure about?
That half of those games were friendly ;)

:dunno: NTV plus broadcats all all Russian and many other WJHC games. So, yeaa, ppl can make comparisons. Of course you don't need to make any excuses, but nobody is asking for them....

On a different note, I think that our team really sucked and unless something is done about the defence, the quaterfinal is the ceiling. Canada looked fine to me, the only remark I'd make is that they literally missed the puck too much. But that's typical of juniors...

Well,i hardly think we need excuses :)
Anyway, your team is fine, they are good skaters(does anyone expect a Russian team not to be good skaters?) They need to come together as a group yes but if they do that they'll be o.k.

I am not from Canada, and Malkin will (hopefully) be a Pen next year. Have to give a very strong 'Go Russia' in both where my interest and heart lies. That would stand for the Olympics as well, when the United States team is not playing of course. Good luck to everyone involved though and I hope that the games are fun to watch.

Canada is accepting new immigrants as you know. The application is in the mail...

I believe the majority of the Czech roster also plays in the CHL so they will be fairly prepared for the smaller ice as well.

Do you really have to note every ****ing spelling mistake. Lehtonen, Lehtinen, not a big difference.

I only wish I were harping over a spelling mistake. Let me make this clear for you Einstein, Pogge is no Lehtonen.

it is particularily rediculous to base anything on past scores in the WJC, because of the obvious turnover of players. That's what makes this such an exciting tourney... every year different countries are considered the powers... I really do believe that our group of youngsters this year have what it takes to win... but with guys like Schremp, Kessel, Malkin, Frolik et al playing for the competition... it's gonna be a very close tournament! Can't wait!

Exhibition games... So we've beaten the Swiss 5:0 yesterday. Czechs handled them 6:3 and lost to Canada 2:1. So, by transitivity, we would be beating the Czechs 2:0 and Canada 1:0 (next time??). :biglaugh:

Seriously, anybody knows anything about our yesterday's performance. 0 goals allowed is a better sign...

yep my words ! Exhibitions are crap ................and we played without the best player (not only russian) !

Exhibitions only mean so much yes, they can tell you what a team has to work on but it's certainly not the finished product. The goal is to make that product better of course, whether the Russian coaching staff does that is the issue.
