I think Bennett's eventual hockey build when he's done physically developing will be something close to what you see guys like Steve Stamkos or Tyler Seguin playing at. Stammer is listed on the NHL site at 6'1 and 194 lbs, while Seguin is 6'1 and 200 lbs.

That's around the target weight I think Bennett will be, which is a good balance between big enough to be effective physically, but not too big (for his frame) that he'll lose speed/shiftiness.

Kingston down 3 - 0 in their series, could be out tomorrow. Bennett could possibly be called up to the Flames.

Not sure they'd want to mess with what they have going. They could certainly use a scoring winger, but I'm not sure about a centre.

Good thing Bennett can play wing!

He will likely be with the Flames as early as Saturday.

I understand Edmonton wanting the bigger player in Draisaitl but this myth that Bennett is 'small' needs to die. Seriously, nothing small about him.

Draisaitl is bigger, and 'big' is not measured in height. Draisaitl has a big frame and will fill it out more naturally. Bennett will always be slighter, and maybe he should stay that way considering the quality of his play comes from his speed.

Draisaitl is also more of a natural pivot imo. Bennett will be a winger, just like how Huberdeau moved to wing.

And btw, I still think Bennett is the better player. It would not have been a stretch for him to go 1st overall. I still like that we picked Draisaitl though.

I have no idea how you came to that conclusion. Bennett was drafted as a centre and he's expected to play as a centre. We have openings at centre and the Flames have already shown they're not hesitant to play a rookie pivot in his first season.

As far as the hockey world is concerned, Sam Bennett is at this moment a centre and will be a centre.

I don't know what makes you think the bolded. Bennett's game (away from the puck) is tailor-made for being a center.

Could Bennett make the transition to the wing? Sure. Might that even be where he ends up? Possibly. But I don't know where you get this idea that he's pretty much a lock to be moved to the wing because he's not "a natural pivot".

Ideally, I think Bennett could be a Henrik Zetterberg type player, who can play both C and W.

Kingston down 3 - 0 in their series, could be out tomorrow. Bennett could possibly be called up to the Flames.

Ugly series. If anyone ever wants evidence of why it's not a good idea to build a team around 1 line with the rest of the forwards being 3rd and 4th line players, Kingston's series against North Bay is it. Literally the only scoring chances created by Kingston only occur when the Bennett line is on the ice. Much easier for the opposition to basically swarm and isolate Bennett that way (he's usually matched up against Brampton's top defensive center Nick Paul and top defensive defenseman McIvor).

I wasn't comparing his size to Draisaitl. I was pointing out that Bennett isnt a 'small' or 'undersized' forward.

It's hard to think of a reason to put him ahead of Monahan or Backlund any time soon, and I've been told his face-off ability is nothing special, so it could be a while before he's able to reliably take a draw in the NHL.

I think all that spells out that he'll enter the league as a 2/3 winger and will have to earn center responsibilities over the course of a few seasons.

Actually what we may see is that Backlund is shifted to the 3rd line, which will eat all the tough assignments and insulate the 2nd line. Just like Hartley did during Monahan's rookie season.

Bob McKenzie @TSNBobMcKenzie
KGN swept by NB in OHL 1st round, which means Sam Bennett will be returning to pro hockey. CGY will recall, TBD where he's assigned to.

Bob McKenzie @TSNBobMcKenzie
Options include a return to NHL Flames or to AHL ADK. No decision yet but I suspect AHL is more likely. We will see.

Tough, tough decision. Already looks NHL ready.

I would personally send him to the AHL. But it wouldn't be surprising if he went up to Calgary.

Home from Kingston game, Fronts season is done but Sam Bennett is heading to Edmonton. Calgary is in there Saturday night. #Flames

I heard they were going to send him to the AHL but thought it best he get his feet wet against the Edmonton Oilers first. :sarcasm:

Somehow I have a bad feeling about this. I kinda would like to see him in the AHL and bring him up slow and get him more physically ready/mature. Let's just hope no one from Edmonton takes a run or cheapshots him because then everyone will be questioning whether they tried to bring him in too quickly too soon....

The AHL is filled with guys just as big and many more of them dirty and cheap.

This is exactly the type of thing we heard about Gaudreau, who has been just fine.

Injuries can happen in any league with the speed and physicality hockey is played at.

I actually think the AHL is more dangerous than the NHL lol.

Keith Aulie, Matt Hendricks, and Rob Klinkhammer are all guys that could put a hurting on someone with a clean check. Outside of Aulie and recent recall Brandon Davidson we have no physical presence to speak of on our blueline. If Adironback is in the playoff hunt they should send him down there to keep him hungry to make the team next season IMO. Tossing him into the playoff hunt right now is heaping a lot of pressure on him IMO.

ADK is currently 12th in their conference and virtually eliminated at this point. Wouldn't mind Bennett going to Cgy at all. If he plays enough games to burn a year off his ELC that means the Flames are at the least taking Vancouver to game 7. Well worth it imo

Adirondack doesn't look too well this year. We're not going to make the playoffs. The AHL has just as much of a risk to injury as the NHL does.

Had it not been for Sam's shoulder, he would have made the team imo. He went to the OHL, put up a 2.0 PPG to prove us wrong. Additionally, while he was recovering with his shoulder surgery, he was always surrounded by Flames trainers, Flames management, he pretty much hung out with the Flames. I don't think it makes much sense for him to play in the AHL.
