Keith Aulie, Matt Hendricks, and Rob Klinkhammer are all guys that could put a hurting on someone with a clean check. Outside of Aulie and recent recall Brandon Davidson we have no physical presence to speak of on our blueline. If Adironback is in the playoff hunt they should send him down there to keep him hungry to make the team next season IMO. Tossing him into the playoff hunt right now is heaping a lot of pressure on him IMO.

With all due respect, big hitters permeate leagues all over the world. And so what if he gets hit - that's hockey. Something dirty (which I'd be concerned about for Bennett, and really any player) is just as likely to happen in the AHL.

The same thing was said about young Jonathon Gaudreau last spring - not only did he not get hurt, he scored a goal! Not really sure how hes doing this year, but that was a highlight of a crap season!

I'm tentatively excited to see Bennett in action - he has game-breaking skill, and CGY needs it right now. Looked great in camp, pre-season, and looks like he got back to speed in the OHL. Hes better than Mason Raymond or David Jones. He's worked with CGY trainers all year, so they have more knowledge than anyone of where he is physically. If he burns a year off of his ELC, it will be well worth it too.

If he underwhelms, it will be disappointing, but forgivable and not the end of the world or his development.

I hope he gets to at least play against the Oilers and Coyotes. They are barely NHL teams at this point.

It would be nice to use those two games to get him ready for his stint in the AHL... but I think they'll just throw him to the wolves and straight to Adirondak.

I am not sure that BBO was suggesting that he should be in the AHL because he is less likely to get hurt. In fact, I can guarantee to you that BBO knows a lot about what the AHL is like and I think he would agree that you are more likely to be the victim of a cheap hit in the AHL over the NHL. This is especially true if you are a young star looking to make a name.

11 goals 13 assists in 11 games in the regular season. 0 goals 3 assists in 4 playoff games, but Kingston only scored 4 goals in those 4 games.

The stat-line might not suggest it, but Bennett actually played well in the playoffs. It was just a combination of running into a hot goalie, his linemate Watson being an absolute ghost so basically it was only Bennett and Crouse doing anything, and Kingston having zero secondary scoring that it made it easy for North Bay to basically pile on Bennett and not worry about anyone else.

Seems strange North Bay dominated Kingston in that series when the Fronts beat em 6-1 recently and Bennett had a trick and 4 points.

How many thought North Bay would win that series let alone sweep?

Anyone who follows the Frontenacs knows it's probably best to bet on the opposition. Kingston hasn't won a playoff series since 1998, and this year's club had zero depth up front and relied a lot on their goalie to keep them in games.

I didn't think it would be a sweep, but I didn't like Kingston's chances. Bennett would have had to be even more prolific than he was in the regular season, or Peressini would have had to be unreal, in order for Kingston to pull off the upset.

Looks like the AHL for Sam.

And just like that plans change. Last night Bennett was going to Edmonton. Now it sounds like he's joining the AHL team to practice.

What's the reason for the horrible playoff performance. Gotta show up when it matters

How was that any worse than this?

My post was serious. I think a game against a fragile group like the oilers would be a nice way to get ready for some stiffer competition in the AHL. It's sad, but true. I mean, 8-2!?

I didn't realize oiler fans watched these Flames prospect threads so closely.

Just as bad as a few of Flames' posters invading their Around the League thread.

I heard they were going to send him to the AHL but thought it best he get his feet wet against the Edmonton Oilers first. :sarcasm:

Funny, even funnier if the Oilers beat you tomorrow and helps to crush your playoff aspirations.

I agree that there are more goons in the AHL, however a guy like Aulie is trying to earn a NHL paycheck next season and will likely be trying to make a name for himself in the BOA. Also there's always the chance that the BOA gets heated.

ADK is currently 12th in their conference and virtually eliminated at this point. Wouldn't mind Bennett going to Cgy at all. If he plays enough games to burn a year off his ELC that means the Flames are at the least taking Vancouver to game 7. Well worth it imo

Adirondack doesn't look too well this year. We're not going to make the playoffs. The AHL has just as much of a risk to injury as the NHL does.

Had it not been for Sam's shoulder, he would have made the team imo. He went to the OHL, put up a 2.0 PPG to prove us wrong. Additionally, while he was recovering with his shoulder surgery, he was always surrounded by Flames trainers, Flames management, he pretty much hung out with the Flames. I don't think it makes much sense for him to play in the AHL.

Thanks, I'd still send him down there and let him play out the string and then have him up with the big club for the remainder of their season even if it's just practicing.

As for Bennett being 2PPG, he sure was for his limited games played, but he may not have been over a full season, that's something that we'll never know. That said the OHL sure seemed high scoring this season, it's amazing how many guys put up gaudy numbers.

Then you clearly have no idea about the difference of competition between the AHL and the NHL or you are just trying to stir the pot. We have had guys recently that are allstar caliber AHLers **** the bed on the Oilers. Guys like Brad Hunt, Ryan Hamilton and Matt Fraser.

As for Oilers fans watching Flames prospects so closely, Bennett was a guy that a number of our fans wanted (I wanted Draisaitl for the record) and he's on the team of a highly touted draft eligible player in Crouse so I'm not sure what's so surprising. You don't see us taking too much interest in Jankowski do you? Monohan was also a guy of interest since he went a pick before we drafted and many of us (myself included) wanted to trade up to nab him.

Agreed with you, others get to wound up arguing over semantics, like which league he can be hurt in the most. He could just as likely suffer a bad injury playing in the OHL, AHL or NHL. I don't know if it is because many don't actually watch much CHL hockey, they just hear things and then start using it as their own opinion, but I hear the arguement all the time that the OHL or CHL is a childs league, making it sound like he's playing friggin minor bantam hockey here. There are many big players in the league, heck Oshawa has three players over 6'5 and 200 pounds, so he would be just as likely to suffer an injury from say a hit from Hunter Smith, Nick Moutrey than a guy like Klinkhammer. Hockey is hockey, just at the NHL level it's a step or two faster.

Bennett would be fine if he were to play in the NHL, his skating and hockey sense alone would make fit right in and not look out of place. He still is pretty sleight but he is sleight even in the OHL.

I wasn't directing this post at you but just quoted it for other's to see.
