He was, and I think they should break the pair up for a few weeks again, as a result. It'd be useful to have more evidence as to exactly how good Monahan is without Gaudreau, especially in a contract year in the midst of a rebuild.

Monahan scored 22 goals his rookie year without Gaudreau. He's a solid player without Johnny no question, but it's no secret that Johnny compliments his game immensely.

The only reason Gaudreau had a few games with Bennett was to get Bennett going offensively. He did for a short time, but even when Bennett wasn't scoring you could tell he was close to figuring it out. He plays the game the right way and does so every shift.

It's starting to look like something finally clicked for him and he's figured out how to consistently score in the NHL. He's been playing with confidence for months, but is just now starting to find the back of the net regularly.

Bennett already has 2 GOTY candidates which is quite impressive.

I'd like to think Gaudreau and Bennett will sort of be a Sakic-Forsberg or Crosby-Malkin situation. In a sense that they both need the puck and are the focal point on their lines.

Monahan is consistently better with Johnny than without. Calgary has been shuffling lines because the secondary scoring is only just starting to show recently. Given our season/depth we're really not in a position to just have on really good line.

Sure, he scored 22 goals in his rookie year, but outside of that he was roundly pretty terrible. He was disastrous defensively, gave up the puck a ton, and was generally in over his head pretty much anytime he wasn't within 15 feet of the opposing net.

I want to see what more mature Monahan looks like for an extended period, on his own. Because his game does match with Gaudreau's really nicely, but I don't want him to be valued based on having to be paired with JG his entire career.

Monny will get 6 million on an 8 year contract IMO. There isn't much of a way around it. Johnny will get 6.75-7 because I don't think RFA Gaudreau gets paid more than UFA Gio/Iginla.

Monahan hasn't played that well this season, but he looked dominant at times last season. It will click for him at some point. People are just trying to find flaws in his game when in reality, scoring 85 or so goals in his first 3 years of NHL eligibility is pretty spectacular.

The guy is struggling and he is still probably going to get around 30. Monahan is a 30 goal scorer, year in, year out. He's five or six years away from being at his peak physically. No he isn't Kopitar, Toews or Crosby. But he also isn't Daymond Langkow or Craig Conroy either.

So he's Phil Kessel with better hair? :naughty:

Agreed. Our guy Stamkos will want 11 or 12 mil and we will have to let him walk out for nothing (ha ha suckers) but Monahan and Gaudreau will take hometown discounts.

Must be nice for you guys.

This kid is on fire right now. I'm assuming this was the guy everyone expected him to be.

He's been excellent all season, just snake-bitten and moved around WAY too much. He literally played all three forward positions, on four different lines over probably 15 games. Just ridiculous. He hit about as many posts as you can imagine, and had more disallowed goals than all other Flames combined.

He's been excellent though. Just a pleasure to watch; fast, shifty, physical with great hands; nothing to complain about.

What are you talking about, I'm really not sure?

Monahan and Gaudreau are RFA. 6 and 7 million are the going rates for players of their calibre? Stamkos is UFA, there is a slight difference.

I think the other gentleman was confused.
