Don't look now, but Sam Bennett is tied with Ehlers and Larkin in points with 10 this season.

This kid is going to be stud Center for Calgary. I had him as the #2 player in the 2014 draft.

His game goes beyond points, with the intangibles he brings to the game.

What he's done so far is pretty impressive, given how poor his team has been overall.

He's arguably been their second-best player after Gaudreau.

I'm already making room for him on Canada's WHC roster this spring. it would be cool to see him along with childhood pal McDavid.

This kid is honestly amazing. Not afraid to go to the dirty areas and has that wow factor with him. Honestly I think he ends up a better player than Monahan.

He's definitely playing better than Monahan lately.

I agree with you though lol

In his first 17 games Sam Bennett has 11 points. About a 53 point pace. Pretty good for a kid that turns 20 next summer.

He has no chance of making the WHC team.

Because he will be on the north american youth team

Nobody cares about that cash grab. He'll have his first real test at a REAL international event this spring at the World Championships in Russia.

Best for him to play as many worlds as possible if he wants to contend for a spot one day on an Olympic team.

I agree, more upside than Monahan. What a nice 1-2 punch to build around though.

I think Bennett and Monahan could actually be Calgary's Kane-Toews. Not comparing styles though as I don't find Bennett's game to be like Kane's.

Bennett is impressive. He stepped into the Playoffs last year and was instantaneously an impact player.

Calgary have the middle locked up with Bennett and Monahan. What an asset to have 2 talents like these 2 on one team.

I loved them both in their draft years. Exceptional young former OHL talents. I think Bennett will be the better of the 2, but that would be like splitting hairs to me.

yeah, real tournaments where the best players are still in the playoffs, its as big a sham as the WHC.

But back to Bennett, he's gonna be good probably my favorite non-nylander (clear bias) forward from that draft.

The thing I've noticed about Bennett is how much of a sponge he seems to be. He seems to take bits and pieces out of the games of so many different players and try them himself. I think playing with McDavid as a kid, he picked up on a lot of what McDavid does best. When he plays center, he plays a very Toews-esque style (the execution is still a work in progress). When he plays wing, he plays a very Perry-esque style. He sees Gaudreau try a move, two games later he goes and tries the same move. Rather than settle for one style of play, Bennett brings something different every shift and is learning to read the play better and better every game. Lately he's been doing his best Sedins impression along the half-wall to set guys up. He's a pleasure to watch and quietly becoming a nightmare to defend.

One thing you can't say about (m?)any of his points this season is that they've been "gimme" points. Watch the replay on just about every point he's had this year and they're all Bennett. His vision and hockey IQ are second only to Gaudreau among Flames forward in my opinion.

EDIT:
Flames nation just posted this article.

What's going on with this kid lately? Who is he playing with? Why the low number of scoring opportunities?

What I have noticed is there are 2 Sam Bennetts.

One comes on the ice and uses his high IQ and grit to create scoring chances out of nothing.

The other Bennett comes on the ice, stays around the perimeter for a while, then goes off the ice.

If he can up his concentration level, he will be a star.

I mean he's on pace for 45ish points. I'm sure that number will rise if the Flames start playing better (which they will). Plus if he gets put onto Gaudreau's line I'm sure his numbers would explode.

He's still only 19. I think he will get 50 points. Playing with Backlund and Frolik. What more were you expecting from the kid?

To your first question: Awesomeness.
To the second: Usually Backlund and Frolik
To the third: Not sure, is this some stat you pulled from war-on-ice.com? Can I see?

Before the Dallas game the whole team was playing bad. However in the Dallas game Bennett was great he has a breakaway, 2-3 really good chances in close and he drew two penalties.
