Love the size, not so much the production.

Thing to consider: stats don't tell the story on how a DI eats blockers to allow LBs to make tackles. Hopefully that's a strength? No idea. He's also 27, so could be a guy that just needs to be unlocked. He was a genuine beast in college.

Needs to be/stay healthy earn it.

Meanwhile, NFCE CB news:
DAL loses J. Lewis
NYG add P. Adebo
Both are positive developments for WAS...

Apparently M. Williams is signing w/ CAR. If he goes for less than we paid Kinlaw, I'm going to be pissed, in spite of largely trusting AP.

He was hurt in 2021 and 22. He played 14 (2020), 17 and 17 games the other three years of his career. His stats aren't eye popping but as @ynotcaps points out, stats aren't the whole story, especially if he's double teamed most of the time. Too many of our DL this year were easily blocked with one guy. Lets trust GMAP until proven wrong.

Also his increase is partly due to the cap going up, lots of guys are going to get surprising contracts this year, starting with Garrett at $40M.

Yeah, but…… my Niner friends here, locally, think it’s an overpay. He plays too upright, and has knee issues.

It all depends on the guarantees, obviously

From Seth Walder (ESPN+):

Commanders signing DT

The deal: Three years, $45 million ($30 million guaranteed)

Grade: C-

A year ago, I was critical of the Jets' signing of Kinlaw, but he did produce the best season of his career. He recorded 4.5 sacks in New York, along with a 10% pass rush win rate at defensive tackle (15th-best, slightly above average) and 35% run stop win rate (19th-best, slightly below average). Both were career highs.

To me, Kinlaw -- who mostly played 3- or 4-technique for the Jets but occasionally played nose tackle -- isn't a needle-mover who justifies this level of financial commitment (especially the $30 million guaranteed!). This is particularly true for the Commanders, who already have Daron Payne and Jer'Zhan Newton..

Yeah, that Milton Williams average reset my thinking a bit on the Kinlaw signing. Willing to set my thinking to: "OK, young, big DT on a 3 year contract w/ $10M AAV until he turns 30."

At least a little more palatable...

Thank God we have our QB locked. Justin Fields now signs 2 year 40M deal with 30M guaranteed. The JD contract is going to hurt when it comes up!

J. Sweat to the Cards for 4 yrs, $76M ($41M guaranteed.) Still a few FA options available and T. Hendrickson for trade, but DE is an area where we'll have decent options at our picks in each of the 1st 3 rds.
