He may not be having the best year but he has some elite offensive skills to go along with size, scouts and teams will not let him slide far this draft.

I saw two Chicoutimi games in the past few weeks and Roy is playing much better. It seems like it was a case of a young player losing his confidence.

First 15 games: 5 points
Since then, 15 points in 17 games.

His improvement started before the coach was removed. Also he is the second line centre (behind Dauphin) and plays with the following wingers: J. Bouchard and J. Puhakka. Bouchard has some upside but both are clearly below-average top6 wingers in the QMJHL. It will be interesting to see him play once Gabriel Paquin-Boudreau comes back in January.

Maybe not, guy with Nicolas Roy avatar, but it's its own point.

There are things that stats don't show, guy that has an opinion on Nicolas Roy but can't differentiate him with Charles Hudon

the only thing my avatar should tell you is that I've seen more then 20 games of Nicolas Roy this year, so it might be a couple more than you.

so MAYBE I have a clue on how he performs.

He was very underwhelming the first 15 games or so, and it was very frustrating given the price that the sags paid for him.

Now he is picking up his game, even if he is not producing like crazy you can see flashes of his potential, a more consistant effort. A Clear turnaround that you'll see reflected in his production for the 2nd part of the year.

This is great news. I was one of N. Roy's biggest fans before the season and had him as the top guy from the Q for the draft.

People in here stat watch and see a big guy with unimpressive stats and write him off. They don't realize the level he thinks the game at.

I see it more as potential for bias.

I would have agreed with you 100% 2 weeks ago.

I actually see him catch up others and returning to his original expectations if he continues to do well under the new system.

I'm interested to see if he can reach his potential, mostly because of the price the Sags paid for him and I like seeing Q prospects being successful later on in their careers because of the bias that some O and W fans have towards the Q.

C'mon man, he just gave a very reasonable analysis. It's not like he was making excuses for him and he even said his start was disappointing.

This is the problem with HF, someone comes in with actual first hand knowledge and others call it "biased", even though the only argument they have is reading on here or looking at statistics.

Maybe this is the problem with HF. Someone posted stats so I responded with more stats to put the original stats in context and so you call me a "stat watcher" as if it's impossible for me to have seen Nicolas Roy play.

If he was 5'10" people would have forgot his name already.

I'm not calling you a stat watcher, but the poster above gave some good info in which he backed up by saying he had seen 20 viewings, and you shut it down by saying he's biased.

And yeah, using the "if he was 5'10" argument is as valid as saying "if player x had worse iq they wouldn't be as good". Fact is he's 6'4 and will likely be successful partially because of it.

I remember hearing the same thing about Joe Colborne.

And you call me biased because I said his game is getting better after an awful start of the year.

I'm not saying he should go top 5, just that he is getting better and you can see potential and aspects of his game that will hopefully brings his stats up.

Of course if he wasn't a 6.4+ center with good hands and good IQ people would have forgot his name already, Size is an important factor in hockey and evaluating potential. Getzlaf would not be as good as he is and a 1st round pick if he was 5.10. He might have never made the NHL.

on the other hand if he was as fast as Mckinnon he would be in the conversation for top 3. or if say Gallagher was 6.04 do you think he would have been a 5th rounder?

If you would see what I write about Laurent Dauphin or Gabryel Paquin Boudreault you would not think I'm that biased.

Lost me in the first sentence. I didn't call you biased, I said I see potential for bias.

I trust my own eyes > a Chicoutimi fans eyes.

I saw him twice this month and he looked like the same lost soul as a month ago despite getting 3 points (his team had 15 goals in those 2 games)

CH4 is pretty knowledgable with the Q, he's usually not biased.

12 points in 8 December games.

Looks like he is finally turning it around, up to a 26 points on the season, a +6 and 55% in the circle.

I wonder if he makes a run for the top 20 once June rolls around? He was pegged at
16th by ISS in October. Next season will help determine if N. Roy can be consistent all season, and hopefully validate his probable 1st round selection

Looking good at u18 as well. Looks like the last half + u18 could propel him back into the 1st round.

Hope the Habs grab him. They need a tall center like him down the road. He might get better overall than Gauthier in Rimouski (drafted by the Leafs)

I'd be shocked if he is drafted in the first round.

I'm expecting him to be drafted in the second a la McFarland, whether he ends up like McFarland is anyone's guess.

Yup. He's surging back. Wouldn't be surprised to see him get drafted around #30. He has the pedigree and the size every team covets in a centre. Some team is going to like him enough to take him late in the 1st.
