So for those that get to watch him. What has made the difference? Is this simply a case of a young guy growing into his body? Has his skating improved? Is it just confidence?

I'd say more consistent intensity has been the biggest change to me. Other things have improved as well, but i think even last year there were always flashes of what he's been this year...just the intensity would really wane at times, seemed to kind of check out for stretches, wouldn't be using all of his tools to full effect. Always seemed to have the potential to be a pretty dominant player when he was going, hence the high profile coming in and all that...just seems to be putting it together much more consistently on a day-to-day basis this year. And the results have followed.

He was stuck in a shutdown role on one of the worst teams in the league against other teams' best players night in and night out. Chicoutimi's coach gave all the o-zone starts to the Hodhod-Dauphin-Boudreau line. I'm still shocked he went 4th round, he at the very least looked like a capable bottom 6 center with upside, I mean he went first into the q for a reason. Happy to see him put it together this season. Carolina's draft last year was excellent.

A few things have changed but IMO he's playing a lot more in traffic. Staying in front of the net and jumping on rebounds a lot more than he used to. Last two years he was a perimeter player without a good shot. This year he's using his hands and size in traffic. Also, he was always good defensively but he's forcing a lot of turnovers with his long reach. Getting quite a few of odd man rushes.

True. Being stuck "behind" Dauphin certainly did Roy no favours last year. Though it is a bit of a double-edged sword...as this year, i think he's really reaping the rewards of being leaned on so heavily as the go-to #1C now (as Dauphin was before him).

I too was shocked at how far he fell though. I'd had him right in a big lump of players who i thought would've been very reasonable picks anywhere from very late 1st to mid 2nd. With that size and skill package, and the flashes of what that could amount to (and his U18s i thought really showcased his talent). Watching him fall, i started to wonder if there was something i didn't know/wasn't privy to "behind the scenes" going on there. :dunno:

Good to see him looking like he's really putting it all together this year. Early returns on Carolina's draft are certainly looking awfully promising.

Roy still on a tear these days. 23 goals in past 27 games. 37 goals 37 assists in 51 games total. Could end up being a 4th round steal for Carolina.

I remember a few years ago when he was being drafted into the Q it was between him and Beauvillier as the most talented forwards. By all means his first year in the Q was impressive, 16g 25a 41pts in 63gms (Beauvillier had 9g 24a 33pts in 64gms).

Although a 4th rounder, he always had potential, and hopefully he'll continue to develop as a center. Maybe he'll stick with Carolina for 9 games next year depending on what happens with the Staals. If he is back in the Q he should be in for Team Canada.

Lalancette (Q insider) reported that Team Canada has been paying close attention to him throughout his hot streak (becoming more than a streak).

Hat trick for him this evening. Now has 45 goals on the year.

4 games left to score 5 goals, definitely not impossible but also not likely in reality.

The Q lead for goals in 46 right now though so it is very possible he leads the league in goals this season.

the next four teams that Chicoutimi plays are Quebec, Sherbrooke and Baie-Comeau 2x
None of these teams are great, Baie-Comeau especially being the worst team in the Q (if not CHL) this year with a measly 25pts. Roy should hopefully be able to have multiple goals against them at least.

Always thought he had potential despite underperforming and the draft contraversy in Jrs. He's the type of player you take a risk on, still super surprised he fell all the way to the 4th rd
