You enable entitlement and I'm ignorant

I'll stick with my guy Connor McDavid
"It's just wrong to be honest. You put yourself ahead of the game and it can never be like that. To 'select' where you're going to go, it's not fair. There's a draft for a reason. The team picks the best available player and for the player to say 'I don't want to go there, I only want to go there' it's not right."

He was talking about the NHL draft. Once you have already "made it", have contact offers, etc.

The CHL is much different as these players are trying to develop their game so they can hopefully play hockey for a living, and the CHL is not the only route so many players take other options into consideration if they feel that the place they were drafted is not the best option for their development.

CHL vs. NHL draft is apples to oranges.

Easy to say that in the OHL with no language and school barriers like in the Q and not near as much travel as the WHL.

Also much easier to talk out when you like the situation you were presented with.

I'd much rather stick with reality and the recent history which tells me that the kids should be entitled considering the factors you refuse to acknowledge.

I'm sure you also believe McDavid is playing for the OHL minimum for his age group.

Yes it is.

Also apples to oranges is the Quebec school system to the Maritimes.

Also apples to oranges are the perks higher end kids get in the CHL to report.

Anyone who holds this stuff against the kids or calls the parents down for it simply shows a clear lack of understanding of the situation the kids are in.

I didn't say you were ignorant, just that it is ignorant to think he could have followed the full time QC education system in NS.

It's not how things happen though, and it never will be, so might as well accept that.

Well that's no attitude I'd ever embrace. If people just accept things as they are the world would be a scary place!

So there's no difference between the schooling in Richmond Hill, Ontario & Erie, Pennsylvania?

You can stick with your opinion. If every top player was an entitled little runt your favorite team probably wouldn't get many good players.

I'm not refusing to acknowledge your factors, I have my own opinion :O!

You can have your opinion, the basis for it is simply one I don't agree with.

It's not always about schooling in terms of high school. Some players want to be close to home for high school. Others are 100% focused on the hockey and want college paid for.

You can keep acting like it's all a big black and white but almost any parent with a teenager will laugh at you with your naive stance.

So it's only fair for kids to be able to demand trades based on 'education' unless they're not a first round pick. If you're a later pick that might be a late bloomer or simply underrated that actually has to earn his stripes in the league, you have to give up hockey if you don't want to move for 'education' reasons :sarcasm:

It's entitlement.

I love how you keep bringing up other players as if it's my responsibility to call out every single one of them. I don't think it's right whether it's a kid now, yesterday, 5 years ago, QCer, NSer, PEIer, NLer, NBer.

Get over it.

That's just life. The prettiest girls get to choose who they want first and vice-versa.

I also disagree that 8th round picks don't benefit from this. Now the CHL has an educational program that benefits everybody and not just the high picks. The CHL didn't start re-vamping the league (scheduling, scholarships and so on) because they came up with this on their own. It was forced on them by the market of players who'd rather go to the US for educational purposes. If everybody simply went to the team that drafted them and never used their leverage to improve players' conditions, I'm pretty sure the CHL would have been pretty happy to keep status quo and let forces of inertia dictate the rules.

Others are grateful to have an opportunity to play in the league and go where ever they are fortunate enough to get that opportunity.

I'm not too worried about winning over controlling hockey parents that make life choices for their kids.

I'm not even sure what you are arguing anymore, you are all over the place

You dont have to worry about them as your job is not to win an OHL or QMJHL championship.

Good luck doing that without the high end players.

You've seemed to miss the many points from the other 7-8 posters that have tried to get points across to you. I guess that's what happens when you use the loudest in the debate wins approach.

Yep I'm being so loud by responding to people telling me how naive and ignorant I am for having a different opinion!

I'm not missing their points, I disagree with them.

Deal with it.

I wasn't missing your points, I just know they are not correct.

Deal with it

You literally just said you didn't understand my point and misquoted me earlier in the thread.

Who is all over the place now?

the answer is you, not Nicolas Roy. Nicolas Roy has been invisible

I said that because your statement had nothing to do with the argument you started with, but this horse is dead so we should stop beating it.

Yes Roy has been awful thus far

No, it's still you.

You complain about the higher end kids not going where they're told then use the 8th rounders reporting to where they're told as a comparison.

Those 8th rounders being potentially just as good was the argument from those of us telling you the situation seems to be a bit over your head as you clearly can't see it clearly due to likely a lack of experience or knowledge on your part.

Thanks for playing along though and proving the point that these kids reporting gives the higher end kids even more reason to play hard ball as they're still considered the elite of the age group.

I think I figured it out. We disagree? Our opinions are different?

I've had one point. I think Roy used a weak excuse to influence where he plays. It's been used dozens of times before by both QC & ATL players. You believe it, I don't.

You can sit here and try to shove your opinion down my throat or you could accept that not everyone will see the situation the same as you.

About halfway through the season, Roy is really dropping the ball. The guy is being outclassed by numerous other prospects from the Q.

Since Chicoutimi's new coach took over, Roy has seen an uptick in production, he has 6 points in his last 5 games. Maybe he's figuring it out a bit. We'll see.

He is.

He is playing much much better. Let aside the points and stats, his all around play is better, he is much more involved in the play. He is having a lot of scoring chances and creates a lot for his teammates.

What I like is even if he could put more points in the boxscore, we see clear improvement in his play, and with the chances he get now you just know that the stats will follow.

saying he is producing only when the team scores 5+ is pretty ignorant as the team scored 5+ 3 games in the year.

I would have agreed with you 100% 2 weeks ago.

I actually see him catch up others and returning to his original expectations if he continues to do well under the new system.
