It wasn't until the Hlinka camp that I thought Roy had a very good chance to become a top 10, dominant player. He was the same exact dominating puck ragger that he was at the U17, and showed he was the same guy at a level higher a half year later.

The season is still young, and maybe all the pieces aren't clicking yet for Roy, but he was never at the level of Svechnikov. Svechnikov was a clear tier ahead of Roy at the very least. There was a hold up in rating him highly from NA agencies - may be the reason other EUR are defecting at a higher rate.

I only got to see him live 3 times at the U17s and it was the 3 games he was completely invisible lol Czech Republic, Russia, and especially USA made him irrelevant when they faced him.

Definitely needs to improve his skating, and like other have said he also needs to engage himself in the play more.

His start has been rough, but remember he is also playing for a team that had 5 goals in the first 4 games. Now that he has a few more skilled players back in the lineup he should at least see an improvement in pp points as he is on their 1st unit with Dauphin and Boudreau.

I still think he is a 1st round player, and that his season will begin to trend up.

The Sags are on TVA Sports tonight against a very good Remparts team, so it's a very good opportunity to see Roy and where he's at right now.

Thanks for the heads up. Will try to keep an eye on Roy, (and Timashov, of course.) Of the 2015 draft class from the "Q" is concerned, Roy by far has been the most disappointing thus far.

Far and away over rated. Scoutman pumped this guy for quite awhile.
I don't think he has it but I hope I am wrong. Might turn it around in time.

At one point does he start dropping? 4 points in 12 games and he's been pretty invisible in the games I've seen.

Let's calm down a bit as there is still a lot of hockey to be played. It is obvious his confidence is shot. Not a good showing tonight though

A fifth of the season has been played. A lot of hockey to be played but a lot has been played too.

The way he plays right now, he's not going in the first two rounds.

He's a faller. Find me a guy who went in the first round that was producing at a 0,33 PPG pace in the last few years. Not happening.

He's probably going to increase his scoring, but from what I've seen, he's jus not a very good prospect. He has size and some tools, but not sure he knows what to do with it.

This year's Joe Colborne. All the size and skill you want in a prospect, displays none, and i mean zero, of the heart or passion for the game that propels success. (obviously Colborne looks to have found some fire this season, but the point remains)

his refusal to report to cape breton was a red flag then and seems to have been a good enough show of character that his stock is falling rapidly. his dad is also a little nuts, i dont think too many teams are hot on him

Roy's confidence is shot. He has been playing poorly in October but was pretty good at the Ivan Hlinka tournament, even dominant at the Team Canada camp.

Other top 2015 draft forwards are struggling thus far, both Konecny and Marner, smaller, more offensive forwards both have 5 points in 9 games, also well below their 2013-14 pace. Roy is a more acute example of early season struggles but he did struggle early last year too. I'm waiting until Xmas to make a final judgment. The Sags are a mess right now, they have very little top-6 offensive depth if any, their defence has been a mess, players getting into verbal arguments practice after practice, coach on the hot seat, etc. There is no way N. Roy wil go in the first round if he does not pick it up offensively but I would be shocked if he is unclaimed after 2 rounds and not ready to give on the first round just yet.

Was MacKinnon's refusal to report to Baie-Comeau an indication that he lacked character? Roy refused to go to any teams outside Québec for educational purposes. School system is different in QC than in the maritimes, that's the only reason he didn't want to go. He said he'd go any place in the province of Québec. Jérémy Roy also said the same. Jérémy even handpicked a few places that had CÉGEP nearby the arena. Sherbrooke happened to be one of those places, so he reported without any complications. Doesn't seem to have prevented him from being a top dman prospect for the upcoming draft.

Besides, I doubt Nick's father is a little nuts. From what I remember both his parents are well educated and the whole family, including Nick, care very much for education. Doesn't mean the educational system isn't good in the maritimes, just means it wasn't right for Nick and where he was in his life at that time.

That being said, a lot of the hype regarding Nick Roy was based on projections of what he could become. Not what he actually achieved. I had him 4th overall in the his Q draft class. Thought Jérémy Roy was clearly better. Also thought both Beauvillier and Meloche were better and had more untapped potential at the time.

I honestly can't believe people buy the education excuse.

It's 2014. You can get a University Degree online  I'm sure the QMJHL Education Coordinators have dealt with french players in the Maritimes before.

It's not like he ended up with the Remparts or a big organization. Chicoutimi has been struggling for some time, so yeah I'm buying the education excuse. Seemed to me like his parents and he were honest about it.

I agree, his education reason is much more honest than many other top young player's reasons why they don't want to play for certain teams.

Many big stars in the OHL have made the "thinking of ncaa" excuse just so they could drop to the only team they would play for and yet karma has not punished them.

You have to be pretty gullible to buy that excuse whether it's Nicolas Roy, Nathan MacKinnon, or any other player that uses that excuse.

If the difference was so dramatic we would be hearing people complain about it. The only QMJHL-education related story I remember lately is Brett Morrison and it was his own fault for not listening to his advisers.

Not every player actually cares all that much about their education either. As in the general population, only a minority will end up in university. You will have your share of players who couldn't care less about education. In some cases, you have players who care but will do with any situation given. In the case of Roy, I don't know the specifics, but the schooling systems in Québec and Nova Scotia are different. From what I remember there were some things that couldn't be worked out. I'd have to look further into that.

Besides, it's not like players have to lie about why they don't want to go to certain places. Some players are simply not comfortable in given environments. They are open about it and they get traded. Last summer Marcotte and Graves asked to be traded from Val d'Or for x reason. Both had their reasons and were subsequently traded.

Roy was present at the draft, said he wanted to play in the Q but asked to play in the province of Québec to continue his current curriculum. He even said he'd go to any city in the province of Québec, it wasn't even about the size of the market and stuff like that. Case in point, Chicoutimi is a struggling organization that's not known for distributing gifts to attract players.

If you have evidence that would come in contradiction with any of what Roy said, go ahead and publish it. Maybe he doesn't speak english or doesn't want to live in an anglo community, but so far there's not much that leads me to think he wasn't honest in the reasons he gave for not going to CB.

Also, none of this has anything to do with why he's struggling offensively this year. Like I said, a lot of the hype came from projections about what he could become give his size, hands and 2-way game. It's not like he dominated midget hockey like Jérémy did.

You could have just copied & pasted your other posts.

You don't have to repeat your point over and over, I get it, I simply disagree.

You feel it's ok for a player to decide where he plays and I think they should respect the draft & go where they're lucky enough to get an opportunity to play. If they don't like it, there's a long list of players that would kill for a chance to play in the league.

He could have finished school while playing QMAAA and gone to a CIS school in Quebec if education was that important to him.

:laugh: from everything I am hearing about this guy, he screams like another Brandon Saad to me. That big frame, PWF type of a game but just hasn't found the drive yet for the game. I can possibly see this happening. Watch this guy pull a Brendan Saad and go late in the 2nd or early 3rd round. Then possibly play his up the depth chart of whatever team he gets drafted and make the team out of them camp, continue to impress his way from there out.

I mean people were talking the same way about Saad, I remember few posters here saying they wouldn't even waste a 5th round pick on the guy. Guess how that worked out. Roy has similar traits and attributes and problems as Saad did in his draft year. If I was a team, I would absolutely gamble a 2nd round pick on this guy(despite it being a heavy draft).

Except these are University students, they are grade 10-12 students.
