Button was talking about Ottawa's prospects and rated brown as a #1C during last nights intermission. Very happy with Ottawa's crop of highly ranked prospects.

That's what it sounds like. Have heard he needs surgery but would likely end his year. Unsure what the truth is though.

The Brown pick was fascinating to me. It will be interesting to watch in following years if Ottawa made the right and smart move by trading a 3rd rd pick to move one spot up to pick him over Mcleod.

Brown really upped his game later in his draft year, this may turn out to be a very astute pick by Dorion.

By all accounts Brown had a disappointing year. I'm not concerned yet, but I will be by this time next year if he doesn't have a big season. The Sens desperately need a legitimate first line centre, so I think this boom/bust pick was the right call, regardless of how he pans out.

I think injuries are to blame here, which is a concern, but is a legitimate excuse as to his production this year.

When he wasn't out injured, he wasn't playing at full health.

A write off year to say the least. Hopefully he was able to do some weight training while sitting out for all that time as some more mass on that frame could really help in the puck protection game.

What I've read about the injuries doesnt seem too bad though as they were somewhat freak accidents and in different parts of the body each time vs. a more worrying recurrent issue.

Next year if he doesnt reach another level imo its time to start worrying...

Been injured on and off, and his spotty effort level has returned. Still has high potential if he puts it all togeather, but he needs another year in Windsor, he isn't ready for the NHL.

This. Also, I'm of the opinion that he has a fairly high floor, what with his size, skill, and smarts. If he cannot become a top-6 centre, I believe that he could adapt his game to become a Bjugstad-esque 3C, which is not shabby. Ottawa has to be happy with Brown, White, and of course Chabot. Not many teams making their conference final have that level of skill at the most important positions waiting in the wings.

Definitely not ready.. IMO he will need a year in Windsor and at least 1 and likely part or all of 2 in the AHL.

He has to grow is compete level and his body into that frame... and he needs to want it. He has true #1C potential with those soft hands, vision and size. I find he has some difficulty in tight areas but .. that's minor if the boy gets his mind right

If his career mimics Colborne or Bjugstad is he still considered a bust?

Bjugstad had some nice seasons and was looking to really take it to another level, that one just baffles me.

Not sure you can call players who are top 6/9 players busts, but it depends on where drafted and what expectations where. I think they are better off called disappointments over busts as to me, the busts are the guys who never reach the show or never play a regular role in the NHL for any player drafted in the top 4-5 rounds.

The guy we should have taken was mcavoy . A left shooting ray bourque .

One of the worst comparisons I have ever seen on this site.

Not only is McAvoy leagues behind Bourque, who is easily one of the best defensemen of all time, but to top it off McAvoy right-handed.

what about his spelling, grammar, or maybe even the point he was making

still way too early to tell with Brown, lots of promise there and if healthy this kid should dominate this year in the OHL and be team USA's #1 center at the WJC. Anyone suggesting that this kid is busting I think is being very premature.

he is a massive kid still growing into that frame, the great thing about him is those soft hands and his solid wheels....he is a lot like Joe Thornton in certain aspects. work ethic, compete level are certainly issues, but they are always workable - plus I am sure his father will have a few words for him as well.

he just needs to be healthy as that was his biggest issue IMO. he has the possibility of a massive year ahead for him with the WJC, I think you see what this kid has to offer as many will not be regretting this pick come December.

Optimism is good but even when healthy this guy floats way too much, Getzlaf was considered lazy in junior but Brown is inferior to Getzlaf as a prospect. Brown has a long ways to go.

My mistake I flipped who shot which way.

Big deal.

McAvoy is the real deal. Dude is physical, skates extremely well and is a solid two way guy.

One of the "worst" comparisons is slightly exaggerated in my estimation.
