i would not be shocked if the canucks acquire kotkaniemi this summer. they badly need a center and if they miss out on bennett there's not really any alternative available in free agency other than giving a retirement contract to someone like nelson or granlund or hoping roslovic or frederic can step it up (or donato, but i think he'll extend in chicago)

the canucks and canes have talked a lot recently and i don't really see any other 30 or under centers that are likely to move. byfield maybe gets traded but i can't see any world where the kings don't get a center back in the deal

Team will probably never be a serious contender for a long long time.

They're last in almost every single offensive metric since the New Year, you literally cannot get any worse than they already are.

Entirely unserious franchise.

Yes, the arithmetic is weird at this point. They've been playing badly, they know Hughes will not be 100% rest-of-season, and who knows about Demko. They have a top-10 hardest strength-of-schedule rest of season, and play the Western powerhouses a number of times. I mean, I can see why they didn't BUY at the deadline, since they are probably a long-shot at playoffs regardless, but I'm unsure why they are worried about getting worse. Only thing I can figure, they didn't want to get totally blown out rest of season so they can use the narrative "we were injured and still almost made the playoffs".

It's hard to wanna spend money on this franchise. I don't care what people say about being negative and doom and gloom/ownerships viewpoint on how to run a franchise. If the majority of the fan base sees management/ownership as a problem and the on ice product is suffering well that translates to less bums in the seats.

Put it this way. I've been a Canucks fan for better part of 2 decades and I honestly don't wanna spend another cent on this team until we head in the right direction.

Let that speak for itself. Management is a freaking joke and I hope they learn their lesson quick or we're headed for another decade of darkness.

Lol. Management wanted a first for Boeser. Gets a 1st last minute but is to stubborn to pull the trigger. Boeser plays on the 3rd line for rest of the season and we miss the playoffs. He walks.

Great asset management!

well if we ignore Fridge’s reporting on this.

Fridge reported we didn’t offered a 1st
Dahli reported we got offered a 1st
PJ reports we got offered a 1st and KK but also we have to throw in one of the top 3 prospects we have.

The most credible reporter is Fridge and his reporting directly contradicts Dahliwal but I guess you just want a reason to be mad
 
Id much rather them throw 2 x 7 at Tavares than KK or long term Bennett. He is slow but still has a lot of skill left
 
Its pretty tough to make sense of the competing rumours on what Boeser could have returned. Allvin's comments, if they can be trusted, would seem to align more with Friedman and PJ's rumours, rather than a first being offered for just Boeser. If the latter rumour is correct, and I wouldn't have an impossible time believing management would decline this, then management really f***ed up in my view.

But if management was only offered a second for Boeser or Suter, then in isolation, I don't really have a big problem with them not accepting those offers. I say in isolation, because I still find this organizations continued preference of short term interests over long term interests to be infuriating. As a fan, I feel like I have been watching the same circus for the last ten years. And I get that the current management are not incompetent in the same way that Benning was, but that also doesn't mean they are exceptionally great to the extent required for them to both succeeding and compete in the short term and in the long term, which is effectively having your cake and eating it too.

no. literarily, you didn't read my statement carefully or you are unreasonably parsing it. you are mistaken in calling my statement false unless going into last season you thought the team could realistically aspire to be more than a wildcard team that year.

This is a direct contradiction to what Friedman said. Obviously Dhaliwal is running interference for Boeser's agent but the contract offers are probably true.

Makes you wonder whether they really intended to trade him or were just using the trade threat as a pressure point to get him to sign a new contract.

Management and ownership seem to be more or less aligned in their interests. And I don't doubt that ownership is the one setting these short term goals, but management has its own self interest in also chasing short term success. Like, if you are a manager, and assuming your owner green lights a rebuild in whatever fashion you want, would you want to do a tear it down rebuild where your team sucks for 3-5 years with no guarantee that you won't be fired after the fifth year before even having a chance to see the fruits of your labour? And do you think if you are fired after the fifth year that any other owner is going to hire you after putting up a massive losing record for fire years?

Sadly, managements are inherently self-interested in short term results, and owners usually are as well. Fans are the only ones who may prefer longer term interests over short term interests, but even then, that's usually more the die hard fans.

if they also asked for one of willander, lekkermaki or d-petey in return, as has also been reported, then were the canes offering a late first for boeser or offering a late first for a package that included boeser? my view is all of those players are worth more than a 1st round dallas pick disregarding boeser. in fact, i wouldn't trade willander or d-petey for both those dallas picks and i would expect both those players to have more trade value than boeser as a rental and thus the primary piece in such a trade. l
