Barbashev not taken in the 1st round. Ridiculous and amazing at the same time. Goldobin went ahead of him, a crying shame.

To be fair, Goldobin has the talent level of a top 7-10 player in this draft, being Russian and not having a defensive game made him fall. Barbashev is a more complete player without any question marks, but probably questions of his whole talent level. I am very happy with the Avs picking Bleackley, but I think Ivan is around the same playing style, but better offensively.

Bergevin said that Scherbak was the last guy on his last and that he would have traded back if he wasn't on the board..
dunno what that say's about Barbashev, there must be something none of us know about him

its interesting that Chicago traded back with Barbashev still left on the board aswell

Barbashev was the 19th rated prospect from the average of the 7 major NHL draft ranking .... McKenzie, TSN Director of Scouting Craig Button, The Hockey News, International Scouting Services, hockeyprospect.com, McKeen's Hockey and NHL Central Scouting.....hard to imagine that many people could be wrong about him.

Shouldn't be that big of a surprise really. Boone Jenner and Brendan Saad were ranked 19th and 20th I believe. They both went in second round. Of Course we know how that turned out. I curse the Leafs management for not picking up either of those players considering we had 2 draft picks

I'm gonna say a prayer tonight that the Flyers trade up for this kid tomorrow. My favorite player in the draft.

God I wish TB could move up to 31 and take him. I wouldn't have been mad if they used pick 19 on him. Given that they traded back when he was available though, I doubt they have him on their radar.

I thought for sure Tampa would take him with pick 28 and was surprised when they traded out.

Going to be so upset if Buffalo doesn't draft this kid, after seeing several other of my favorites make it so close to #31 only to be taken, like Kempe, Scherbak, and Goldobin.

I won't let it ruin the draft for me but, boy, if we pick someone over Barbashev he damn well better pan out. If we trade the pick -- Murray said he hopes someone will overpay in order to get the remaining guy they covet -- it better not be some 2nd round pick swap where we pick up a third. This team does not need yet more draft pick quantity.

I'm really curious as to why Yzerman and Murray don't like Barbashev. They've shown no hesitation whatsoever with Russians in the past so it's clearly not that.

Gotta be honest, with some of what was on the board, I'm pretty disappointed with the DeAngelo pick just from a "what could have been" standpoint.

Must have said something in the interviews that turned off a lot of teams. I thought the guy wouldn't get past 25.

I think it is just the way the draft unfolded....I am sure a lot of teams had him with a 1st round grade but had their top rated prospect fall to them and he kept getting bypassed. It's just the way the draft fell...lets say if Carolina opts to go with Ehlers instead of Fleury at 7, the rest of the draft beyond pick 7 most likely changes. I just hope that the Sabres keep the pick and he is off the board at pick 31. I think it would be a steal especially for a prospect I would have been willing to draft in the mid teens to 20s had we decided to trade up.
